Why is my siamese cat scrathing his neck so much?
OK here’s the deal: I have a Siamese cat that is constantly scratching his neck. This condition started about 2 years ago when he started scratching so much that he cut his neck open. There was blood everywhere. I took him to the vet, and the vet put a cone on him. We put him on antibiotics and steroids and special cat food.
Well, he’s still scratching, 2 years later. He doesn’t have fleas and the vet can’t figure out what’s wrong with him. He’s still on his prescription cat food. I have a hepa filter vacuum cleaner, a special air filter for my heater/air conditioner. He has never once has been outside or around other animals. Any ideas?
No he doesn’t have fleas, He’s on perscription food, and i’ve been to 2 different vets.

He may have some kind of a skin allergy. Or, at this point, it might even be a nervous habit since he’s been doing it for so long. I’d try a new vet. Maybe someone new would have better ideas, cuz if he’s still doing it 2 years later, then whatever your vet recommended did not work. Keep his back nails clipped down so he doesn’t do too much damage to his neck. Poor kitty!
he has fleas dou
He might be allergic to the cat food you give him. Try him on something different for 2 weeks. It could be anything though, catnip, treats, your fabric softener…hope this helps.
he may have a sore or fleas. take him to the vet if he doesn’t stop in a day or two.
Gosh, if your vet can’t figure it out, who can? All I can think of, is maybe the cat is scratching out of habit, or he could have some kind of skin disease that the vet missed. Maybe you should get a second opinion from a different vet.
Maybe he’s bored and acting neurotic? Do you play with him a lot? Give him lots of attention? Could he be lonely and need another kitty to play with? Sometimes to interrupt this kind of behavior, animal behaviorists will prescribe something like "kitty valium" for a few weeks to see if that will calm the animal down. You haven’t washed him or put a flea treatment on him that he’s allergic to? Are you clipping his nails on a regular basis? Does he have lots of scratching posts, kitty condo, toys?
