WHY DO PEOPLE DE-CLAW CATS IN THIS COUNTRY?
WHY DO PEOPLE DE-CLAW CATS IN THIS COUNTRY?
Its so cruel and unnecessary.
Dont people realize this!
Stop de clawing NOW!
Joshua,
My cat doesnt claw or scratch the furniture. He has a scratchy post- no need for spray bottles in our house.
As for the rest of your cat haters, your next life will be as a mouse

I know I wouldn’t want scratches on my nice leather sofa.
They are more sensitive to the value of their furniture than they are of the deformities they’re imposing upon their trusting pets.
I’ve owned cats for decades, and they can have their nails trimmed if they are exclusively indoors. They can also be trained to not scratch furniture any number of ways.
i agree with you that it is very cruel. Its like ripping off ur fingernails. People do it because of a couple of reasons. 1. They r too lazy to cut the nails all the time 2. they don’t look the look 3. they don’t want the cat clawing themor any1 else 4. they don’t want the cats clawing up furniture.
I totally agree with you! De-clawing a cat is the same as a human having their finger amputated at the first knuckle. Cats scratch things, it’s in their nature. Get them a scratching post so they have something they CAN scratch without causing damage.
my cat is at the vets as i write this getting declawed. it’s not cruel…it saves the furniture. my other cat is declawed as well and he is fine. it’s not like they just rip them out, it’s very humane..believe me, i’m an animal lover and i wouldn’t do anyting cruel to any animal, yet one of my own.
I HATE THAT! buy a non-leather couch. thats so mean they are born with claws we should not take them off. God wouldnt have gave them claws if they rent supposed to have them. idont even have a problen with their claws.
it’s simpler and more economical than taking them out of the country to do it.
because cats can be feisty animals, and like to play, which sometimes involves attacking people (in a playful way), and most people dont exactly enjoy cat scratches. i have a cat, we declawed her, and shes fine. its not cruel, they are given anesthesia and recover quickly.
To protect their furniture. It really is kind of selfish to declaw a cat. Plus if the cat escapes outside, it can’t defend itself as much from other animals.
People want animals, but they also don’t want to be inconvenienced. Kind of sad actually.
You’re right. It is totally inhumane. People who can’t deal with scratches on furniture to the extreme where they pull out their cats nails do not deserve to be pet owners. I have always found that practice sickening and it should be considered animal cruelty.
I don’t have cats, but I know that people declaw their "strickly inside" cats to keep them from sharpening their claws on their expensive furniture and tearing everything up. Also so they can play with their cats without being scratched up.
Because some Americans cant take animals as they are. They have to mutilate them to make them suitable pets. Dont like your furniture getting scratched? FINE, then get another pet. Dont mutilate it to suit your selfish needs.
because de claws can slash ur winkle
because people are afraid of getting sued.
Cats that have claws ruin furniture. If all of your furniture sucks, who cares. But, if you have nice furniture and are a cat lover then the only way to prevent the cat from destroying the furniture is to have its claws removed. Would you rather people kick their cats out on the street or have them euthanized instead of having them declawed?
So cat’s don’t claw people it’s not always painful and is necessary sometimes if they claw furniture.
There is nothing to realize.
I will also not stop de-clawing.
BECAUSE CATS ARE GOING TO SCRATCH THE HEL OUT OF SOME LITTLE KIDS
you’re rtght …its cheaper to just shoot them…
So they won’t represent a danger to humans for their claws can infect one when they scratch
For the same reason that people crop dogs ears and tails, all they care about is convenience and looks.
For those of you who think that this practice is humane, you probably do not have a full understanding of what the procedure entails. Cats nails are literally attached to their "finger’s" bone structure. It is not akin to yanking off your finger and toenails, which honestly is painful enough. It is actually more like amputating the portion of your finger that the nail grows off of. So, person further down who’s cat is currently being declawed, understand that this procedure is surgery not a deep and humane clipping.
Declawing is not the only option for saving your furniture. They have soft caps that you can safely glue to the tips of your cats claws that protect you and do not hurt the animal. Also, if your cat is regularly groomed and their claws appropriately trimmed, their need to sharpen them against your furniture is lessened.
Please go out and buy a spray bottle and a scratching post and train your cat to use the post.
It’s not any more cruel than having a tooth pulled, but we do that to cats all the time for their well being, don’t we? The cats don’t feel the pain and it doesn’t bother them. Most vets agree that domestic cats should live inside 100% of the time for their own safety. If a cat lives inside 100% of the time they have no need for their claws. And guess what? I had my show dogs ears cropped too. Yep- I am going to pet hell.
Oh my gosh there is NOTHING wrong with declawing cats!!!! You should always have them declawed if they are an inside cat. If they are an outside cat then make sure they have claws for protection! Declawing is only painful for a couple days I mean we have to go through surgery too in our lives so just deal with it!!
I’m against de-clawing because of the pain involved for the cat and also if the cat where to get out it would hav every little defense against attacks from other animals. I have three cats and they have a scratching post, they’re also allowed to used the carpet because or type of carpet can’t get damaged from it. We taught them by clapping our hands when they where little and wanted to claw the couches ect. it works.
i understand where people are coming from when they say they Don’t wanna declaw,..
but i did declaw my cat…
he scatched everything, and i tried other things like the "soft paws" that everyone talks about so much…
but they never stayed on my cat for more than a couple of days (even though the instructions say they last for alot longer than that)
and, they aren’t cheap…they cost about $20 per thing…
it got to be way to expensive to keep up with, and my cat always got super distressed when i had to sit him down and glue those things to his claws.
for me, and my cat, this was the more sensible (and humane) way to keep him from getting into trouble. he’s happier now that i don’t glue those things on his paws, and now he doesn’t scratch all the furniture.
plus, iu made sure that the procedure was done by a very skilled vet, and used only the safest meds and lasers for the operation.
I am strongly against de-clawing. When I lived with my parents they declawed the cats because they were very destructive and we couldn’t break them of the habit. They didn’t care too much about the cats clawing up the furniture but the cats would peel off the wall paper too! They saw the only two options as getting rid of the cats or declawing them so they wouldn’t destroy the walls and furniture. They saw this option as more humane than making them live outside or getting rid of them.
I would never declaw my kitty! When I found that I couldn’t break him of the habit i found looked at options. Stick on claw caps work great but my kitty would not allow me to put them on him. He would freak out as soon as he could smell the glue! But then I started simply snipping off the sharp tip of his claws. I would do it right after catching him clawing the couch. Eventually he realized that clawing furniture = claw clipping time and he stopped.
Many other cats can be broken of the habit by simply buying them a scratching post.
because alot of cats like to sharpen their claws on good furniture like the sofa and the side of your bed. I think it is cruel too but people will not stop because they are more worried about their furniture than the animals feelings. all they really need to do is get the cats some toys and a clawing mat!
