What would be a good experiment with a house cat?
I have a female tabby cat, and I have to do a 7th grade level experiment. I’m stuck at what to do!! Someone help, please?
NOTICE—
anymore cruel comments towards me or my teacher or towards the cat will be deleted. this is not a physically harming experiment, i just need to know what to study about her. i love my cat and would NOT harm her for the WORLD. so back off idiots.

Hi there,
I am wondering why on earth would a teacher in her right mind ask a group of 7th graders to experiment with their cats. Unless there were very strict guidelines which were not included in the question, it seems to me that this would only open for possible animal abuse. I think the assignment is totally inappropriate.
Perhaps a better assignment would be have your class come up with some interesting ideas about if cats could think up "experiments" with their caretakers, what might they be?
I think my two cats would suggest, "what kinds of engaging and imploring looks can I give my fur mom in order for her to share her roast beef sandwich with me?"
You see what I mean?

Edit: In light of your misunderstanding my statement about your teacher as "cruel", perhaps had you worded your question more elaborately, I would have been able to give you an answer which was more helpful. So I will, now that you have explained the situation more extensively, I will be able to do that.
Edit: Cats have an amazing sense of smell. Why not hide a piece of roastbeef or other favorite food and time how long it takes for her to find it. My cats can be sleeping, but if I open a container with their favorite human food, they are on the counter like white on rice. Does your cat have a very sensitive sense of smell?
Do something comparing different brands of catnip.
Do something involving one of those little lasers. Ya know, the little ones that when you press a button there” be a red dot, and you can see if your cat will chase around the light. Its fun too.
you assholes. don’t put your cat in the microwave. do a cat food experiment.
ANY experiment on a cat…is INHUMANE. Fire your teacher!!!
See if she enjoys watching cats, dogs, other animals or people on tv.
Which will she watch?
Which will she stay and watch the longest?
Whatever you do, don’t hurt her!
The microwave idea from the poster before me is, hopefully, a joke … A BAD JOKE!
***Good Luck!***
Don’t experiment on a living creature, that’s cruel. Unless it’s something that won’t hurt your cat in any way, like what some people suggested about cat nip and laser pointers.
And whoever suggested putting the cat in the microwave, why don’t you try that with your head, see how long it takes to explode!
Why don’t you experiment in not asking a question that incites cruelty to cats ? Anyone thick could try the stupid suggestions you’ve had from 3 idiots , which btw I’ve reported ! Cruelty to cats is not a laughing matter !
Experiment on your teacher not your cat. I’ve reported the 3 idiots too for inciting cruelty to cats !
I’ve reported them too, this is how so much animal abuse goes on, people think its funny to hurt them.
I once saw a documentary that ran tests on horses, but I think it could be tried on cats too. The good part about it is that it’s really easy to set up.
The test was to try to find out which (if any) colors horses can see, Or, you could do it with shapes, to see if a cat can come to associate, say, a triangle with getting a treat, and see if the cat can pick out a triangle next to other shapes. The horse would be shown two cards and had to choose the right one to get a treat. The shapes might be easier to get good results with.
I have two ideas on how to do it.. one would be to set up boxes with a door cut in them, and cover the door with a piece of paper the same size as a door that would act as a cat flap. You could put the shape/color on the flap, and only one box would have the prize inside. The other idea is to get a cat to touch the right card… about the only thing I could ever train my cats to do was to reach out and touch my hand when they want a treat. One of my cats learned so well that she’ll start waving her paw in the air any time I get out the treat bag. To teach them, you just hold the treat directly over their head, just out of their reach. It makes them sit down and they’ll want it so bad that they’ll reach out with their paw. As soon as they touch your hand, you give them the treat. If you could get the cat to do that much, you can try holding out two cards or something.
If you search for cat + tape on youtube, you’ll see videos where people put a piece of tape on various places on their cat. It makes the cat walk a different way depending on if you put the take on their back, side, belly, butt, head, etc. That might also work.
I think the nature of this question was an open invitation to morons who think it’s funny or clever to talk about cruelty to animals. But I think you already know that don’t you poster?
I too have reported the imbeciles.
Tell your teacher that you are going to do an experiment on him/her and then put him/her in a microwave, put a bag over his or her head and tie him or her with duct tape and all the other stupid suggestions that have been put on here. Why can we not just leave animals alone why do they have to be at the root of stupid experiments
do an experiment on how long it takes to train a cat to walk on a leash. you will need to get a cat HARNESS and cat leash. remember do this all INSIDE. this is a good skill for EVERY cat to have
think it was understandable that peeps would think you were being crule as question wasnt clear
maybe you could play wiv her with diffrent color balls and see if she can tell colors apart – my cat can
