What type of cat litter is good for mutiple kittens?

I have 4 kittens and all of them are 4 months old. I’ve used few types of litter and wanted to know which one is best for mutiple cats. I have two litter boxes and usually scoop twice a day. I am currently using Fresh Step Clay cat litter and I guess that doesn’t clump. How often should I clean and empty out the litterI totally and replace it? and which ones are good for mutiple cats?

Wood stove pellets are the absolute best litter to use. Not only do they totally remove the urine odor but they absorb the moisture, the pan dumps out dry and the best part? You can buy a 40 pound bag for about FOUR TO FIVE DOLLARS! It’s the same compressed pine sawdust pellets as Feline Pine so anyone using that stop wasting your money! It’s also 100% natural so if a curious kitten tries to eat it it’s not going to hurt it. You should NEVER use clumping litters with kittens. Nothing really kills poop odor plus you don’t want your cats to end up with poopy paws scoop any poops out daily. With four cats and three litter boxes I dump the pans out after about a week or so. Since the litter’s so cheap you won’t mind changing it often.
During cooler months you can find them at Home Depot, Lowes and other homestores and most grocery stores like Safeway, Fred Meyer and Albertsons stores here in the Northwest US. You can also find them year round at feed stores as farmers/horse owners use them in horse stalls as well.
Have you gotten these kittens spayed or neutered yet? If not, do you realize that kittens can reach sexual maturity as early as FOUR MONTHS OLD so if you don’t separate the males you could end up with more kittens – which means kittens or cats PUT TO DEATH at your local shelter because your cats will take homes from them. So if they’re not already fixed get this done ASAP!
Fresh Step. It contains a odor eliminating solution, therefore the cats will not think the territory is marked.
Scoop for multiple cats in small spaces. Ever since I found the scoop I’ll never go back. It makes it so easier.
i really like the arm and hammer multi cat litter with baking soda because it doesn’t have that nasty "fresh" scent. make sure the box says clumping on it other wise.. well it won’t clump!
max cat is also a good brand (the multi cat) if you don’t mind the aroma of "fresh"
my friend also highly recommends the crystals (she can’t remember the name tho but it has a fluffy white cat on the front of the container) because the crystals don’t tend to stick to the long hair of her cat. HOWEVER.. my kitten liked to eat cat litter in the first week or so, so you may want to look for a more natural product in case your kittens tend to do the same.

with four kittens you should be cleaning out the litter box twice a day so they don’t step and track around any messes.. use your judgement.. if the sides of the litter box are starting to look a little soiled, get in there and clean it right out. it all depends on your kittens and how they use the box. you can get liners to make this a little easier to clean or better yet, a self cleaning box to stay on top of the task for you!
I have 2 cats and I am using President’s Choice Green litter right now, it clumps really well and even though it’s unscented it smells really nice naturally. Also it’s dust free. I also use a pan liner because the smell of the pee will seep into the plastic and you’ll never be able to get the smell out once it does that. Sometimes I mix a little cat fresh powder in with the litter, you can get in the pet aisle next to the litter. I scoop the litter daily and completely change it maybe once a month, whenever it looks a little grey and not good basically. The pan liners really help with changing the whole pan as well, makes everything so much easier.
Unless your pan is a larger one you might do better to have 2 pans. I’d use the clumping litter for them if they are 4 months old now. They shoud be over the stage of eating litter.
We use wood stove pellets now for litter. Works well and is safe. If you want to change to that, do it a little at a time till they are using all pellets.
You should scoop daily (even twice a day) if you have four 4 month old kittens. I would change the litter totally about once or twice a month if you are using the scoopable kind. If you are using clay litter, it should be dumped about every other week or more if necessary.
I used Fresh Step before and really liked it (the clumping kind).
However, they don’t sell the clumping Fresh Step at Costco, so I have switched to Scoop Away. I don’t like that it is scented, but my kittens seem to not mind it, and it’s WAY cheaper. It does a good job keeping the odors down too (except the yucky odor of the litter itself).
