What is the trick to getting my cat into her carrier in order for her to go the vet?

She was not having it so I had to cancel the appointment. What should I do next time?

Put the carrier out a few days before her visit to the veterinarian. There are very good chances she will go over to it out of curiosity. She just might go in and investigate it too.
I just took in a stray male cat a few weeks ago. He just had a visit to the veterinarian’s this past Tuesday. A few days before his visit I put the carrier out. And, naturally, he went and checked it out.
You could try putting a few treats inside the carrier too. Like a bait kind of thing. That usually works well.
They day of the his appointment he went right in with no hassle what so ever.
I bought a top-loading carrier that is slightly larger than it needs to be. You just open up the lid the day before you need it, then drop the cat straight down. It’s the best thing I ever bought for her.
I give my cats some rescue remedy in their water in the morning before the appointment. Then when it is time to put them in the crates I will take a small towel and wrap it around the cat so it can’t move or scratch, then put them in the carrier with the towel.
My kitty loves his carrier… I did put it out maybe a week or so before he was to go to the vets, and he would get inside and go to sleep, not want to get out… took pic of him looking like he was in jail, he just made it one of his hang outs. I love him soooooo MUCH!
Wrap her in a towel and put her into the carrier.You may try a carrying
bag.These are no so intimidating to the cat.Hope this helps.
Your cat probably associates the carrier with the vet. Try putting her favorite food in the back of the carrier so that she is tempted to go inside. Or you can try turning the carrier on end so the door is on the top. Hold your cat on her upper body underneath her front legs, so she is more or less hanging in the air. Now try placing her in the carrier back feet first.
1.pick her up
2.use a yarn ball or a crumpled paper and let it catch her attention then throw it in the cage and she will run into it then close the door
3.put food in the cage
4.chase her into it

i had a cat that actually broke a brand new carrier, and somehow wiggled his full grown self under my dishwasher to escape…i opened cage door, draped a huge towel over entire carrier, then got him from the other room, held him and petted him and coo’ed him then once he relaxed i quickly shoved him through the towel into carrier stuffing rest of towel in after and then poof, cat in carrier and comfy towel to lay on!
Try putting her into the carrier backwards. That is, put her in the carrier rear first. Hold her rear legs up under her as you slide her in to limit her ability to push against the carrier with them.
That way she won’t realize what is going on until she is almost all the way in the carrier.
It is also harder for her to brace her legs to block your putting her in the carrier if you put her in rear first.
As others said, you can wrap her in a towel, leave the carrier out so that she can get used to it and maybe even sleep in it.
A larger carrier can also help. First, the door is bigger and it will be harder for her to brace herself so you can’t slide her in and, second, she might object to a smaller carrier because she feels too closed in.
Try sliding her in rear first, it works for our cats who don’t like the carrier, hopefully it will help with yours.
