Why are you letting a cat drive you crazy?
If you have been trying to stop the behavior, which there is clearly nothing wrong with, maybe the cat is stressing and doing the behavior more often.
For the life of me I cannot see what is wrong. If the cat was biting the tail, and/or the tail is sore and swollen, then that would be a different matter.
Maybe put something nasty-tasting on the end of it so that she develops an aversion to it. Something safe obviously, but with a bitter taste.
Excessive licking can be due to stress, has your cat been stressed over something???
Short of chopping it off, nothing. I don’t understand why your whole family is going crazy because your cat is "grooming" herself.
I’ll wager your whole family was laughing and have a good time watching your cat chase her tail. You probably encouraged her because it was your entertainment.
First you want this, then you want that …. I think it’s time to stop going crazy about your cat’s grooming and get on with life
Some cat’s groom very little while other’s will groom themselves til the cow’s come home. There’s nothing you can do to make her stop grooming. unless of course you brush her more often and then I wouldn’t count on that.
It’s natural for cat’s to groom themselves, which ever part of her body that may be. Stop being so negative because you will pass that on to your cat.
My cat was the champion groomer. Thank you, Thank you out their. You’re all so kind. Anyway, she was a long hair cat and groomed all the time. However, I didn’t sit and watch her 24/7. If I did that, then you might as well haul me away in the wagon. Now I miss her grooming as I recently lost her after 25 years.
Stop your complaining and enjoy her, tail or no tail. All she’s doing is living her life while trying to keep herself clean. Appreciate her, love her, enjoy her. She doesn’t ask much in return.
Think of it this way, there will be less cat hair in your house.
For every negative there is a positive. Look for the positive.
It’s healthier.
let her lick her tail. she is cleaning herself
What’s wrong with the cat licking its tail? It’s perfectly normal for cats to clean their fur.
Hi,
have you checked that your cat doesn’t have fleas? It could be that she has been biten by fleas and is having an allergic reaction. My cat had the same problem, she would go crazy chasing her tail and then frantically cleaning it. When we took her to the vets he told us that she was allergic to flea bites and that this was what was making her itch.
We now make sure that she is treated every month with flea treatment and now she doesn’t chase her tail any more.
Hope that helps:)
That’s how cats clean themselves also if she has fleas she will lick in the area where it itches. She may soothe it when she’s licking if its hurt or something too.
i suggest putting something she wont eat or drink on the end of her tail. its so diggusting that she wont do it anymore. but one thing it is normal for her to lick herself. its like she is giving herself a bath. so if she lick it like twice a day its ok. if she is always licking kinda weird. unless everytime you pick her up she licks it, then its bathing herself. you sound young, like you wouldnt know much about this????????
1. Go to PetSmart.com
2. Click on the cat section
3.Look on the left side of the screen there should be a list of things.
4. Click on repellent.
5. Pretty close to the top there should be an item called bitter cherry spray. (only $6.99)
6.Order it
7. When you get it in the mail, spray it on your cats’s tail. It will make your cat’s tail taste sour, so the next time she licks it she won’t like the taste, and won’t lick it again.
