What is required to take my pet cat to England with me for a year. I was told it would be quarantined for 6 ms
My cat has all current shots required in US and is fixed. I was told pets have to be quarantined for 6 months if flown to England. That would be a waste since I’m only going for 1 year. Is there someone with authority that I should contact who can help me find out?

if coming from america it wont need to go into quarantine, but you have to make sure it has all the relavent jabs the rabie jab, i think only certain vets can give you a proper certificate for that. has to be micro chipped as well.

Taking a cat to England is a big pain! We’re going through something similar right now. If you have a little bit of time before you’re leaving, you should look into the UK’s PETS program. If your cat is current on all vaccinations, has a microchip, and has had a blood test in the past six months, you might be able to get around the quarantine program. Otherwise, you’re probably looking at six months of boarding for your kitty. Another option would be to go through all the proper steps required of you as per the PETS program, then leave your cat with a friend or family member in the states until he/she is able to travel to you under PETS program guidelines.
I just started with the process of taking my 2 cats to England, too. England is rabies-free, so that’s why they’re so cautious in letting animals in to the country. We’re Canadian, so the same rules may not apply everywhere, but for us the process started last week with International microchips and vaccinations for rabies, as well as booster shots. Even if your cat is already microchipped, you may need to get her another one, since North American microchips are different from international ones. A month after the rabies shots, the vet has to take a blood sample and send it to an approved lab for rabies testing. If that passes, the day before you leave, you have to take the cat in for a flea dip and checkup. The whole process has to begin at least 6 months before you leave. Start calling vets as soon as you can and see if any of them have experience with the UK PETS program. Our vet is very experienced, and is walking us through the whole process and keeping a file on both cats.
