What happens when you move out of the apartment and the cat has scratched up the bedroom door?
Just wondering. We keep this apartment exceptionally well kept and clean.
The cat scratches my door and it is all scratched up.. We paid a big deposit for the cat though (as well as a regular deposit).
Do you think the management will want extra for the door, or is that what the deposit is for?

The deposit is to cover damages. Say you put down a $500 deposit and they only justify $400 in damages, you should get back $100. If you put down $500 and damages were like $2000, they would keep the $500 and sue you in court for the rest of the balance. I would suggest trying to repair the door yourself. Maybe even ask the manager what you can do to repair it. A light sandpaper like 180 grit will smooth the scratches out , then paint or varnish the door. Don’t be afaid to ask! Being upfront will show what kind of person you are to the manager. I think he will be willing to help you solve it since you are concerned about it. Have him do a walkthrough with him and you when leaving and you turn in the keys. Get a signed paper from him as to the condition of the apartment and determination of deposit. Take pictures the day before of each room. Have a person who would make a good witness in court if the manager decided to stick it to you for some reason. That way the witness could testify that you and your witness did a walkthrough (here are the pictures ) say on the 29th, and if you do a walkthrough ( that you don’t tell the manager about the one on the 29th) say on the 30th, and he says later there were a lot of things he needed to fix (it happens) ( thus no deposit). You will have his paper he and you signed (and dated) , your pictures the day before you turned in keys, and a good witness.
YOU ARE COVERED!!!!!
They will suck all they can get. expect a fee
thats what the deposit is for…if your still wondering just ask a different apartment manager to see
most apartments damage any thing in the apartment they make you pay for it .
They will keep the deposit. Hopefully for you not all of it.
