shoe strings…putting your hand inside of a pillowcase and moving it around….
STRING!! Cats <3 it and it is so simple to make… cut a piece of it off.
My cats love soft earplugs, straws to chew on,those little sparkly soft playballs. That’s all I can think of for now!
We like to tie old shoe laces or string to the back of the chairs in the kitchen and when the cats are bored they lay under the chair and bat at the string. Another fun thing might be to take a paper towel roll, or toilet paper roll, and put katnip or something else inside of it and tape the ends shut. Then it’s an endless game of trying to get whatever is inside out! Good luck!
You can take boxes and paper bags. Cats seem to love those. To make it more interesting poke holes in them and slide a pencil in and out of the holes either on the inside or outside to peak the cat’s interest. You can take old boxes of sodas and make little tunnels for the cat to crawl through or use string and slowly tug it through the box to try and get your cat to go in and over the box.
With bags, use gift bags. When your cat goes inside, poke the bag in various spots. If your cat starts batting at the sides, continue until they get bored and try a new toy. I have found useless (to me) or old stuffed animals to be good for wrestling.
You can make your own kitty fishing poles and playsets. I have linked them down below if you’re interested.
One of my cats love to chase and then catch and "beat up" old socks that I drag in front of him. He loves it mostly when he is inside this plastic cube we have, that has three openings. When he wants to play, he calls for us. We dangle the sock in front of one of the openings for him to snatch in. He loves it! You can make something like that from a box. Cats love boxes.
All my cats love to chase after anything long that I drag, such as a belt from a bathrobe. You do need to let them get a chance to catch it.
***Never use string or yarn though, as they are very dangerous to cats. If a cat starts to swallow string or yarn, they cannot spit it out due to the barbs on their tongues. So they wind up swallowing the whole length as they try to spit it out. That can lead to a blockage or it can cause the intestines to get cut as the intestinal muscles contract. Cats can and have died from swallowing string.
Many cats like to play with that plastic ring that comes off milk and orange juice jugs.
If you have any small stuffed animals, some cats, especially kittens, love to play with them, beating them up and chewing on them.
Some cats like to play with plastic drinking straws.
A favorite "toy" of my cats, is a sheet of newsprint paper or tissue paper left on the floor. Wrinkle it so it does not lie totally flat. The cats like to dive under it. Kittens especially have a great time playing with a large sheet of wrinkled newsprint paper or tissue paper.
Our cats like drinking straws, a little stuffed animal, a soft ball – they like tennis balls, but also a more squishy one they can carry in their teeth. A brown paper bag, a tissue box, a shoebox….
My cats fave is a simple foil ball. Just scrunch a piece of foil wrap into a ball …they’ll love it!!
