Warm place for cold barn kitties to sleep?
I live on a farm and we keep barn cats to catch mice. We don’t spend a whole lot of money on them because they are strays but I feel bad for them when it gets really cold like it has been. I think they usually sleep in their tunnels in the old straw and they are pretty furry. I’m curious to know if anybody else does the same or if you have any ideas.

the straw is a good spot. they will sleep all together & keep warm that way. put some old blankets/towels out in the barn too if that will make you feel better.
Rely on nature.
We have barn cats, too. They live in the hay, where it is nice and toasty warm. I think hay is a little warmer than straw…so if you have a bale, you can break it open a little and make a "bed" for them in it. They prefer to be up high away from predators.
A dog house can work for cats also. Some blankets will in there will help.
Or a kennel.
Make a isimple cathouse for them with that 1.5 or 2 inch blue foamboard all around inside and make sure the wind can’t blow straight in. Make sure there’s soft rugs or something to nest in. They’ll dig it. my sis has one like that and they do fine all winter.
you could put some blankets in the barn for them to sleep on…
we had a cat who gave birth in our shed and the mother refused to let us move the kittens into the house so we ended up putting a large box/crate thing in there and filled it with old blankets and a fleece throw
i wouldnt worry about them thouh becuse our adult cats that we have now, sleep outside at night and are perfectly fine
how bout u give them to someone that cares
We line boxes with thick newspaper, then tape them shut, cut a square hole in the side and slit the newspaper behind it so they can get in. Newspaper is a surprisingly good insulator. I cut up old blankets to put over the newspaper on the bottom of the boxes for softness and added warmth. Finally, I use big boxes so several kitties can huddle together for warmth.
I haven’t lost one yet, and over the weekend it was 30 degrees below zero Fahrenheit with the wind chill. Just make sure they have frequent water changes so it doesn’t freeze.
Get either a little carrying crate and line it with some old towels or blankets or a little bed for them to sleep in together for warmth. Also, you could just put a pile of old towels and blankets for them and dont bother to et a crate or bed if you don’t want to spend money.
Hope that helped!
Our barn cats lived in the spaces in the hay bales also. The hay is actually very warm. When the hay got low we would cover a box with old horse blankets and loose hay, then cut a small cat sized hole in one side of the box.
Well, what you can do is get some wood and paint it black then make a 1 foot wall and do it all around for about a 3 foot space inside. Then put a roof if you want it can be just wood set on top it doesn’t have to be slanted. Also put some hay under it or just get a bale of hay and set it vertical where it is high then break it a little. They will like how it is high up and also it will be warm.
You could buy a SnuggleSafe pet Heatpad. It’s a microwavable disc that stays warm for up to 12 hours. I have a kitty who showed up as a stray. He doesn’t like to stay inside at night; so I fixed up a bed for him outside, and his SnuggleSafe keeps him nice and warm.
