my cat is 14 years old and about a year ago had a urinary tract infection. Because of this she stopped using the litter boxes and began to eliminate waste on the living room carpet. The infection has subsided since but she continues to eliminate elsewhere. My family does not like the smell of the house and have given her 1 week to learn how to use the litter box again..or else. i am keeping her in my room with a litter box and food in an attempt to force her to use the litter box but she still refuses..please help asap.

What can you tell me about cockatiels?

Today’s my 15th birthday. I’m expecting some money in the mail from different parts of the family; my uncle told me that he will try to send me a couple hundred bucks.

Now, I have a little parakeet, Henry. He’s the sweetest little thing I’ve ever owned, even though he is over a year old and still very wild. (I might ask a question about hand-taming a cranky older parakeet later.) The only problem is, I’ve always been dying to get him a friend, one that I can really bond with, and that Henry might learn a thing or two from his or her good example of behavior.

I’ve been thinking about getting Henry a little cockatiel friend, preferably a hand-fed male in the area. I’ve also been considering getting a really nice(r) well-ventilated cage that can house more than 2 birds. Now, I have a couple of questions:

One. Will Henry adapt to the new, strange species of bird? I really want to put them in a cage together, considering we have a very nice little hook and a chain on our living room ceiling that Henry really enjoys to be hanging from. I don’t really know where I could put a big cockatiel cage. Plus, the area that Henry lives in is a very active place. It has my mom and dad and any visitors that come into the house, so it’s always very animated and keeps him happy that he’s a part of all the action that goes on in the house.

Two. What exactly can you tell me about cockatiels? Can they stand on perches like parrots, and perhaps even talk if they’re trained to? Will they get along with my 8-year-old Akita, my 10-year-old Australian Shepherd, and my 7-month-old Dachshund puppy, not to mention my 16-year-old cat? How exactly do they tick, what can keep them stimulated besides toys? You know, that kind of thing. Linkage would be nice as well. :)

What is wrong with my cat?

I have a long haired Maine Coon named Pooh Bear. Ive had him for 3 years now and hes been a house cat ever since. I do not know his official age because I took him in after sleeping couple nights at my front door. Had no collar, and appeared to be abandoned by previous owner. Anyways for 4 days now he is acting weird. Slow and sluggish, the cat acts as if he is tremendously weak. his reflexes arent as sharp and the cat is sleeping in a corner of a room upstairs at night. During night time the cat would usually perch up at the windows in the living room. Pooh Bear is also throwing up consistently throughout the day. Nothing comes out, nothing like digested food its just clear fluid like water. His food consumption consists of 1 pouch of gravy like substance with meat in the mornings and crunchy meow mix throughout the day. (I just fill up his bowl with meow mix whenever its empty) He is not eating like he used to. What could be wrong. I have 1 other person living at home including myself thats sick with phlegm and strep throat, could be a fever coming from the weather. Could my cat catch our sickness? is he just sick or getting old possibly dying? Anyway let me know. Thanks
People who call me racist because I said "Coon" is obviously ignorant. The word "Coon" originated from the close resemblance of "Raccoons" from the state of "Maine". There are many types of cats, mine happens to be a Main Coon. jeeeeez!

Does my sister have schizophrenia?

She writes really weird stories all the time. I will provide some example from her stories…

Sometimes they are completely random and jumbled, like this:

“Why should they come to the valley of life in the river the wind is are singing and blowing and which way you’re going the magnificent road to the tunnel of heaven they sing and they wander they went and they saw they never returned to the castle the magical feeling of fire awaits you the field of flowers simmering hours for hours and hours they waited and burned and at the end they turned and wondered why but knew it they knew it it happened they knew it and sorry they were for the king had come and wished them a Christmas and happy new year…”

Other times, they make a bit more sense, but are still really bizarre.. like this:

" I entered the kitchen, to find seven sickly cat skeletons quickly but calmly climbing the kitchen counters cunningly chasing six small silver mice. I made a mad dash for the freezer, yanked out a popsicle, and ran to the living room, careful to avoid the cats and mice as I exited. I wonder how those cat skeletons escaped their graves and acquired the energy to chase after the mice, I thought, as I slurped on a purple popsicle. I sat on the sofa, then stood, and stumbled over the sheepskin. I realized I was stuck, so I slithered to the nearest window."

What do you think about this?

She is three years old, so is training her too late an option. I presume that she only does this when people are in the living room with her: the damage doesn’t seem to worsen otherwise.
Also, cutting her claws is not something I’ll consider, she likes to go out side and needs her claws for climbing trees; to make her quick escapes from neighborhood dogs.
Thanx

Cat playing with flypaper?

Okay, stupid situation here…my cat climbed on top of our rabbit cage and started playing with the flypaper hanging above it. Next thing I know, my kitten is running around the living room, with the strip of fly paper wrapped around him. We managed to get the paper off, but had no real luck in getting the glue out of his fur. So, two questions- does anyone know how to get the sticky stuff out of my kitten’s fur without shaving him? And, he’s trying to lick it off…is that stuff going to hurt him?

6 month old cockatiel questions?

I got my cockatiel in a flea market 4 months ago and they told me it was a boy and he was only 8 weeks. Since then he’s grown in his adult feathers but no orange spot on the cheek just a white and grey cockatiel? When should it get more colors?
Also he never shuts up! He talks great already he says: what r u doing?, what a pretty bird. pretty bird. bawks like a chicken, cat calls, calls our dog, and pretty much anything we tell it, it repeats. He has a huge cage 3 feet by 3 feet, he is aloud ouf of the cage and mostly perches on top of his cage, but he talks all day long even after we cover his cage. It can be 1 o clock in the morning and he’s in the dark in the living room covered and is still asking what r u doing? I’m like go to bed!! If I get him a mate will he be a lil more quiet? Any advice would be great thanks
I’m worried if I get him a mate the noise will be even louder!!

I have two male cats, one year old. ONly have problem with one cat.
We have went thru several blinds because he climbs up there and pulls at curtain and pulls and moves blinds, to view outside. My cats are indoor/outdoor. I know he wants outside, but as soon as I let him out, he wants back in to eat/crap, then back to the window. It’s become worse than the kid that wont keep running in and out. I refuse to declaw because going outdoors in the country he needs a way to defend himself.

We have a living room window where i pull the blinds up and he sits on the sill. But for short time, hes back at the kitchen window. Its disgusting to me that he is losing his hair and when he jumps down he has hit the power plug and turned off fridge and microwave without our knowledge.

I’m am bout to make him and outdoor only cat.
Please offer some advise. Thank you.

how do I get my cats to stop fighting?

I have these two big orange striped cats and they are brothers named Milo and Otis. My wife adopted them about 4 years ago when they were kittens. They have always played with each other and gotten along fine. The only fights they’ve had were really playful and we usually break them up with a squirt of cold water.

About a week ago, we go a new mattress for our bed and we leaned the old mattress up against a wall in the living room until we can get it hauled away. Well, both of the cats started climbing on the mattress and one of them has been sitting perched on top of it. Night before last, I had to get up 3 times because the cats were fighting. The next day, when we came home from work, one of the cats had a big scratch on his nose and they were both hissing at each other. Now every time they are in the same room, the bigger cat, Milo starts meowing really loud at Otis, the smaller cat and then they start hissing at each other and growling. We left them in separate rooms today and moved the mattress to another part of the house where they can’t get to it. Is there anything else we can do? My wife is really upset. She’s afraid we might have to get rid of one of them and that would break her heart. Anyone know how to get two male cats to stop fighting like this?
Yes they are neutered. My wife got them from the humane society and it was a requirement before she could adopt them I think. They have been living together since they were babies. Do you think it is a territorial thing with the mattress or is it something else?
