I have 3 cats and 4 litter boxes. I put one in a private location because my male cat poops everywhere but the litter box, if my female cats use it.

How can I get him to use the litter box?
he is almost a year old, he was a rescue like all my cats and he has only been doing this since I got the two female kittens.

Why has my cat stopped using the litter box?

My cat is roughly two years old and has recently stopped using the litter box, only when it, "poops." It does this only around the litter box and the three other cats in the household use it properly and regularly. There are other litter boxes through out the house and those are used regularly, also. I change the litter on a regular basis and I am dumbfounded as to why he would be doing this. And suggestions, any one?

My husband and I have found a pile of poop in our basement every time one of us cleans and/or changes the litter box. The cat starts using the litter box again right after that. Any ideas why or what we can do?

We do have 2 cats, but we have multiple litter boxes. Any ideas why or what we can do?

Why does my cat pee outside the litter box?

I have 2 cats and 2 litter boxes. And one of the cats pees outside the litter box. Its not that she is missing because she does it all the way across the room. And its only like one or two pee spots per week. And neither one has a UTI.

Getting cat urine out of a scratching post?

While cleaning, I noticed that one of my little terrors (AKA cats) decided it would be cool to pee on the scratching post.

I guess I could attribute this to the fact that we rearranged the living room and added a new recliner. Cats are in good health, we have three litter boxes around the house – which are scooped daily – and only two cats.

So, I took the scratching post outside, well, it’s more of a kitty condo thing, put vinegar on the corner where which ever cat peed and left it in the sun to let the smell dissipate.

Should I do something different? What is a good enzymatic cleaner you would recommend to make sure this doesn’t happen again?

My 2nd ScoopFree electronic cat litter box in 3 years has now died on me. I am now in the market for another electronic cat litter box. Not sure if I want to get another ScoopFree since I think spending 0 in 3 years on electronic litter boxes is a little much and I also don’t have the 0 to spend. They seem to wear out quickly for just 2 cats. Wanted to see what has worked best for other cat lovers out there. Suggestions?

Hi Everyone!

I am going to be adopting an adult cat in the coming weeks and am in the process of choosing the different things for her. I have had cats in the past but it has been several years and there are newer and better products out there.

I am asking that those people with cats to tell me their favorite litter boxes (prefer covered), cat scratching posts, brush (for short hair cats), and toys (I already have other things picked out). Please be specific in the products you are recommending. Provide the brand name and any links to the product directly. Also state why you like this product so much (be specific as much as possible).

I appreciate the time and effort that goes into these answers so I will be choosing a best answer, I promise! Those who give product names, links and explanations will be candidates for best answer.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the answers so far!

Krista B,

I LOVE the scratching post thing you showed me! I think it is the cutest one I have ever seen. I love that it has the two scratching post but also two perches and the little tunnels. Cats always love to perch and lay inside things so I think this is perfect. I also love that it isn’t overly huge like some of the "cat trees" I have seen and doesn’t cost a fortune.

Also, I have been looking at the rolling litter boxes and thought it sounded great. Now it sounds even better hearing someone who "loves" it!

Thanks again!

There were a few other answers that gave me some great ideas.

Keep them coming though!!!

I have a 7 1/2 month old kitten, when I first got her she used the litter box just fine, but for the last week and half she’s been urinating on things she’s not suppose to! It was thought that a first maybe the litter boxes weren’t clean enough, so I started cleaning them everyday but that didn’t effect her. She has been spayed for about a month and half now, so I really don’t think it has anything to do with that. I have 2 other cats besides her (one is her sister, while the other is a 11 years old) and 4 litter boxes (1 is a automatic cleaning one), so could it be that I need to get another litter box? And is there just anyway I could just re-train her to use it, because getting rid of her is not an option.

We have had this cat for 2 years about a year ago we got another kitten. About 3 months later our older cat starting pooping outside of the litter box. We took her to the vet and we found out she had a urinary track infection. She was on medicine and stopped for about a month. Since then we have changed her food and she is still doing it. The crazy thing is that she only does it in one spot in the dining room. She doesnt do it any where else. She is fixed. We have 2 litter boxes. The vet says that it could be because we got the new cat. The problem with this is she treats the other cat like her own. They play, she cleans him, they lay on each other.

She is even getting so bold as to do it right in front of us. We are moving to a new house and dont want her to continue in the new house. Anyone have any suggestions?
She still goes in the litter box but will also do this in the dining room. We have tried expensive sprays, plug ins that are supposed to help with the cats mood and change the smell. I am not going to take it to a kill shelter.

Two of my cats (one male, one female) seem to prefer using the bathroom in the house, rather than in the litter box. What can I do to make them use only the litter box? I have 4 cats, and 6 litter boxes, so I know it’s not because they are being over used.
