My new kitty was born on Feb 19th and will be coming to my home around early May. I don’t want to declaw her front paws, but I do need her not to destroy my furniture. What are the non-cruel alternatives? Thanks for your answers.
He started life feral but has resided at a shelter and was reasonably social with other cats and let workers pet him.
The same day we also adopted another 6 month old kitten who’s very social and well adjusted.
We knew he’d be "skittish" at first, so we let him out of the carrier and put food, water and a litter box down for him and gave him space.
After the first night, we looked for him and couldn’t find him.
The 2nd night we heard a crash in the kitchen, we approached and he went ballistic, running to and fro, jumping straight up, breaking stuff; it was sad. We left him alone and he disappeared again overnight.
We figured out that he’d found a hiding place inside kitchen cabinet behind the dishwasher. We’ve coaxed him out and blocked the entrance.
The other kitty interacted with him and seemed to be trying to calm and encourage him, talking and trilling.
Now he’s in the closet. We’ll continue to be patient and give him space.
Any suggestions on easing him into our home?
Recently I have been building a new computer and one of the day’s I was building the computer I was testing the voltage for my power supply. After testing it, I loosely closed the cover to my desktop and preceded to go to the toilet and take a bowel movement. Upon returning I noticed that my cat knocked over the cover and was frantically screeching and trying to get out of the desktop tower!!
I rushed over to him, put some gloves on, picked him up, and he jumped out of my hands and ran off. Ever since then he has been frizzy and has a "static aura" around him. My question is: how long will it take until the static charge goes away? do you think being exposed to the equipment harmed him severely (the vet says he is ok)? and will my kitty ever be the same again?!?
I just don’t understand it why would people do that? isn’t easier to clip their nails then to declaw them

I bought my kitty a catnip toy. It’s the kind that it looks like a mouse, and underneath it there’s a little pouch closed with velcro. Inside the pouch is where you put the catnip. I brought it home and gave it to her and now she’s rolling around on the ground rubbing the mouse toy all over her face and biting it. It’s really cute. What makes the cat react like that?
My one year old cat, Zero, hasn’t quite learned how to keep himself cool in the heat. He insists on staying underneath my bed. (My room is on the second floor with no ac) I have a small fan going that reaches most of the room and on top of my bed or on his kitty tower would be perfect for him to cool down. I have an ice cube in his little water bowl but he doesn’t really drink water. (From what i can tell at least) How can i get him to figure this out? Help?
Yesterday my 1 year old kitty went to the vet for a check-up and to get the FVRCP vaccine, rabies vaccine, and the leukemia vaccine (as these are what the vet recommended).
He’s been eating little-by-little today, but hasn’t drank that much water (I’ve been give him water using my fingers though). And he doesn’t really want to be bothered right now (kinda hides in his cat tree and cat tunnel), and does little meows when I pick him up. But he’s been playing with his toys a little. Is this normal after getting the 3 vaccines??
This is his 3rd time getting the FVRCP vaccine, and his 2nd time getting the rabies vaccine. He got the first FVRCP vaccine and first rabies vaccine when I adopted him at 12 weeks old on September 23, 2010 (they came with his adoption). In January I took him to a low-cost vaccine place to get his 2nd FVCRP vaccine. But took him to a different place yesterday, because the low-cost place is a little to far. He acted normal after getting the vaccine at the low-cost place, maybe because he only got 1 vaccine instead of the 3 he got yesterday? I don’t know.

I am amazed at all the comments about cutting off parts of cats paws to declaw them. Many vets won’t even perform this type of declawing anymore. Laser removal is a much more humane way.
I found a kitten last year and nursed it back from death’s door. When it got healthy, it started attacking our other cat who had been declawed before we got him. He had no defense against it, so we had to declaw the kitty with laser surgery. He was up and running the very next day.
My cat’s feces has gone from normally stinky to disgustingly stinky. She is 15 years old and she has been on Iams regular formula dry food (for about 2 months).

I may be adopting a new kitty into the family soon and he has claws. I have one cat who is 16 and has got them taken off young, so we dont know what to do with a cat that has claws. Just some suggestions for keeping the cat off the furniture. I would buy a scratching post, and then there are these things you can put on their nails, they are like caps i might try, but is there anything else? Thanks so much.
