How do I stop him. Those repellent sprays don’t need to work.

I have been taking care of the generations of this cat "pride" since I moved to my house here five years ago. Sometimes they aren’t so wild, and the cat I am writing about is sweet and lets me pet him. Yesterday I noticed that he has been attacked by some other, larger animal by his tail. It looks like where his tail meets the rest of his body is just raw and painful from the wound. Skin and hair has been ripped off in about an inch diameter all around the tail, and there are deep puncture fang marks as well. I got close enough to see it is in fact, infected. Its also been about 100 degrees outside and I am really worried for this guy.

Should I try to cut the fut away from the wound, and if I do, what next? I know I need to sanatize the wound, but I am afraid hydrogen peroxide would sting and hurt him really bad, this wound is pretty fierce. I can’t afford to take him to the vet right now, but I want to do what I can to help him.
I forgot to mention I have to indoor cats who are very teritorial, so I can’t bring him inside. Even if I shut him in the bathroom, they would smell him. Last time I did that with a feral kitten we got infested with fleas.

I did use some peroxide on him and he didn’t seem to mind a bit. I really appreciate being told it wouldn’t sting him, I really thought it would. I am going to keep doing that and then slather some triple antibiotic cream on him.

If anyone else has any more suggestions, please feel free to leave them here, Lionel (the kitty) thanks you in advance.

Fiancee is quite jealous of how much she loves me. I’ve been trimming her claws, but she is ignoring the vertical scratching post I bought her and is instead clawing at the couch. Now, im in school still, so the couch is not exactly new. But, I’d like to teach her positive habits in case she fights off the leukemia. Declawing is NOT an option; not only is it mean, but she might not recover if she turns out to actually have leukemia.

I’ve tried putting her feet up on the scratching post, but she doesn’t seem to understand whats going on. The thing is supposedly scented with catnip.
Great responses from all of you.

I’m going to try this kitty-see-kitty-do business first.

Is it really recommended to use a pan liner for your kitty, and if so what are the benefits? I clean his box out thoroughly with soap and water once a month, change litter once a week, and scoop daily. Do I need to do the pan liner?

She is a Manx kitten and is very playful and loving. The problem is that she won’t use her scratching post.

She prefers to use the bottom and sides of my mattress. She will crawl under the bed (so it makes it almost impossible to remove her) and just claw at it. Sometimes she decides to use the top of the mattress so that her paws are actually underneath my pillow when I am trying to sleep. The only way to get her out from underneath the bed is to shine a laser light on the other side of the room.

I have two scratching posts for her. I have tried spraying them with catnip spray. I have tried playing with her toys on the post so she will claw it. I have tried doing it myself to show her. I have tried putting treats on top of the scratcher so she will have to put her paws on it to get the treat I also have tried holding her near the post and scratching her back so that her scratches on reflex. The scratchers are both steady and she is able to stretch her whole body length…if she used it.

When she scratches our chairs, I remove her right away and put her in front of her scratching post. Then she just sits there and stares at it. I really need help…I love my kitty and do not want to get her declawed. I hear that it is so painful for them. I also do not really want softpaws. I want her to be able to scratch her claws freely..just not on my furniture.

Help anyone? Please..

I feel bad because our dog has the whole house and they have to stay down stairs because there scared. :b lol. So I want to make our laundry room a little more cat friendly. We have a landing thing were the steps end and thats where their food and water is at. Then there is a kitty door in the wall that goes inside the laundry room. My laundry room is a little bit larger than a regular room. Inside there, they have their litter pans and thats basically it. I am going to put some blankets and toys down there, also a cat play tower thing. I dont have much money to spend, but what other things could I put down there to make it kind of like a cat room? Any homemade things or just things I can buy at the store? Aha. (:
