My indoor cat is very territorial and I’m thinking about bringing home an new kitten, but I am afraid that they may fight?
What do I do if they do?

Also, what is the best age(months) the kitten should be?
My cats 1 year old and 1 month old?(I think, I don’t know his exact b-day)

I’m pretty positive that my cat would try to hurt the new kitten, because I brought him out for an walk on an leash beofre in our frontyard. And there was an old cat sleeping in the bush(didn’t know there was). And all of an sudden he started growling and hissing, his tail kept on moving. Then he ran in and tried to scratch the poor cat, but luckily I stopped him.

Also, does anyone know what I should do at first when I bring the new kitten home?
also, what should i prepare?
should i buy an seprate scratching post or seperate toys?
should i bring some of the older kittens toys in the get him use to them scent?

Thanks

My family has two cats already who are both happy outdoor cats. They are smart with the road and their both microchipped and always come home. I know their life expenticy is shorter but their alot happier outside. Plus it helps with our cat allergies by not having them inside all the time. We are now thinking of adopting a third cat but he is an indoor cat and has been for the four years of his life. How would we train him to be an outdoor cat and go outside but also come back home ?

Our cat was a stray and we had her fixed and she was strictly an outdoor cat. Now we’ve had her for 4 years and she’s almost entirely an indoor cat. We don’t have a litter box inside though so at night we put her in the basement which has a litter box, food, water, heater, and all her toys. Every time I go to put her up for the night she trys to attack me and growls but during the day she’s very quiet. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

I have an outdoor cat who ONLY lives outdoors and an indoor cat who lives ONLY indoors who I only got 3 days ago. They both are 4 year old males. The only contact they will ever have is between a sliding glass door. The outdoor cat is unsterilized (I’m going to take care of it within the next few months when I have time but at the moment my human needs are more important monetarily and time-wise ) whereas the indoor cat is sterilized.

First, because the new cat (Drew) is only inside and the outdoor cat (M2) lives only outdoors and only comes over every few days or every week to grab some food and clean himself off for a few minutes, would M2 be territorial? I mean, it really isn’t his territory anymore, right? He hasn’t been inside in years. Will he want to fight my new cat

Will M2 get intimidated or scared and not come back? Will he want to fight my new cat? He is a pretty vicious cat and will stand up for himself whereas Drew is a calm, peaceful, neutered indoor cat.
What about Drew, will he get scared and not want to approach the glass door anymore?

Here is the history of M2 if it’s needed:

He comes about every couple of days to grab some food for 4 years except for a period of 6-8 months in 2006 where we thought he died. For the next 6 months he enjoyed a good petting session but then he came less frequently starting in January and ever sicne then he hasn’t really taken much to petting AFTER he eats and would rather be alone and walks away if I approach him. What would happen if he sees we have another cat on his ground?
Here’s something cool. Drew actually was watching M2 eat yesterday morning but M2 didn’t see him. Drew was just watching and seeing what was up. Drew is from the Humane Society, so he is used to being around a lot of cats.

He has been able to go out all his life, But recently my neghbour has got a vicious dog, and he has been bitten twice. Is 9 years old too late to make him an indoor cat?

The cat is declawed in the front; we got him that way from the humane society. He is an indoor cat who would like to be an indoor/outdoor cat.

We have a small/medium yard. After training, the dog will need to stay at home by himself for about nine hours a day during the school year.

In the end, we may just get a nice shelter mutt, but it still might help to see what breeds are recommended.

Thanks for all responses.
We’d get a young or adult dog. A puppy would be too much in a lot of ways.
To everyone who answered: THANK YOU!!!
On YA, I often ask questions and get very few answers. On this one, I got lots of good answers to my question. I’ll only choose one, but there were a lot more than one. Thanks again.

Is there? I have a little kitten, but she’s micro-chipped. I’m just wondering if I should put a collar on her. She’s an indoor cat, BTW.

Im getting a kitten soon and i dont know if I want it to be a outdoor or indoor cat. Im rescuing it just for foster care and then putting it back up for adoption when its ready. I dont know if people like Outdoor or Indoor cats more.
