My new kitten who is about three months old almost never lands on her feet. She falls frequently (i.e. off the bed, off the couch, off the cat perch), and while she never acts like she is hurt or stunned, she doesn’t land on her feet. Sometimes she’ll land on her belly, and other times right on her side. A lot of times she’ll fall and roll, not even really stopping at all.

I have two other cats who I’ve had for years, and they have always landed on their feet except for in rare occasions. My new kitten only lands on her feet if she is being careful and calculated. Should it be a concern that she isn’t landing on her feet? Is it enough that I need to get her checked out by a vet? She seems fine otherwise, I’ve just never had a cat who didn’t land on their feet. Is it a kitten thing she’ll grow out of?
Yes, she has been checked out by a vet before. She was a rescue kitten, and so she had been checked for things before we got her.

As far as her balance being off, again, the only thing we see is her not landing on her feet unless she is being cautious. She doesn’t walk or run funny. She doesn’t run into things, although she does bump her head on furniture on occasion from not paying attention when making a fast exit.
As far as the ear mites theory, she doesn’t present any symptoms of ear mites. I’m meticulous about keeping my cats clean, and I’ve cleaned her ears on several occasions. She doesn’t scratch them a lot or shake her head around, and she doesn’t get upset when you touch her ears. In fact, she enjoys having her ears cleaned. She is such a prissy girl. :]
I will also say that most of the time when she doesn’t land on her feet or she takes a hard landing, she is jumping from a fairly high distance. From a few feet, she lands fine. When she is jumping from the top of her five foot perch to the ground, she lands kind of hard. Could it just be because she is still so small? My other cats weren’t big on heights until they got older. If they got up on a piece of furniture that was high, they’d meow for someone to get them down. My kitten just takes a flying leap. Completely fearless, but also kind of reckless.

How do I get my cat to stop scratching?

I’m going to be moving in with my mother soon and I have a ten year old cat. She is very concerned with his scratching problem. I do not think declawing is the answer because of his age, and I will not have him euthanized. He will not use a scratching post, and I have tried several things in the past. I have tried that double sided tape that you put on the furniture on the area where he likes so scratch, and it works, but then he just finds a different area to scratch. I have tried that bitter apple spray and that didn’t work at all. I have considered those plastic caps that go over the claws, but I hear that they are rarely effective, and I fear that he will choke on them. Does anyone else have any suggestions that I may not have tried?

My cat needs a scratching post so he won’t tear up our furniture, and I’m on a budget.
What’s the cheapest way to go?

What's the best solution for my cat?

I wanted to de-claw him but I remembered that it’s taking a part of the bone off and not just the claw, which makes me feel scared and guilty even thinking of having it done. My husband and I have a tendency to forget to keep up on routines; something you have to face with "soft paws". We had this HUGE scratching tower made for cats and he loved it but not only loved the post but loved the curtains and grandma’s furniture she passed down to me. I was FLOORED! Everything basically got ruined b/c he is a very rambunctious cat. We had to replace our furniture as it was torn to shreds and totally crushed me to pieces. He is actually both indoor/outdoor cat and an adult. So basically, I have an adult cat that comes and goes. Oh and it will take a lot of work to hold him down and mess with his paws!!! I don’t want to invest in something that won’t work and will be a pain in the butt but I don’t want to hurt em’ either nor can I bare to find a new home for him. What are my options?

Cat Eye Twitching?

Hi - I have a cat that is almost a year old. She is home alone most of the day because I am at work. I feel like she is lonely because she acts out alot when I do get home from work. I bought her alot of toys and a window perch to keep her busy during the day, but she still has these behavior issues. She climbs the curtains, attacks me, will bite sometimes pretty hard, plucks the furniture. I try to distract her with toys and play with her but the moment i stop, she starts acting crazy again. Then she will be fine afterwards and come sit with me. I am also worried because her eye will start twitching when she gets excited. She will sit and stare at me and one of her eyes will start twitching. It happens often. Should I be worried that something is wrong with her and thats why shes acting this way?

Our little kittens seem to be destroying our furniture and also scratching our daughter. We were thinking about getting them declawed. They are only indoor cats and always will be, but could this be detramental to them in any way?

My cat is 12 years old. Over the years, I have tried many things to keep him from scratching my furniture. He has had scratch posts that he ignores, I have put plastic claw covers on his claws, and I have clipped his nails. I just had my sofa and loveseat recovered, and I would really like to keep it unpricked by his claws. Any suggestions?

I also have an older cat but all she dose is lay around. The cat that is messing up the furniture is young and is an inside cat. I don’t want to get my cat declawed.

How can I teach her not to shred up my furniture?
Water spray, my wife does that but it is catching her at it. too.
Maybe Austin it would be better to stick your photo on the furniture that would keep her away.
