My brother’s cat is about one year old and at least partially maine coon. He’s getting very big and he DOES NOT like to be brushed. I read online that talking calmly to a cat while trying to brush it helps, and it does a little as far as I can tell, but he has giant mats of fur under his legs that are beyond brushing out. He’s so squirmy it takes two to three people to hold him down and partially cut them out. Anyone have a better solution for this problem? I don’t want the world’s cutest cat to think every time someone picks him up they’re going to take scissors to his armpits.

My cat, who is an indoor cat, just got fleas about a month ago. Everything got better and she’s now permanently on flea medication, but for the past week or so she seems to be scratching herself a lot. She’s also been having a lot of dandruff, and I’m not sure if that’s from all the scratching. I looked through her fur and at her skin but everything seems okay.

My cat always stinks because she is getting litter all over her when she goes to the bathroom, it gets in her tail, feet, and sanitary area, and some time there is poop on the litter that is on her…I can’t stand it any more. I have bathed her, but she stinks the next day, there is no stopping it! Any suggestions on a litter that wont stick in her fur would be great! Thanks!

She eats and drinks normally- just noticed her lapping up and actually swallowing her own fur at times if she finds a clump on the floor. Anyone have a cat who does this?

I have a 2 year bengal cat that keeps licking and chewing off her fur on and near her legs. She has a couple of bald spots there, but it doesn’t look like her skin is irritated. Anyone know what I can do to stop her from doing this?
Is there anything I can actually put on that area so she stops doing it?

My cat keeps licking herself on her back (mostly the left and right side) to the point where she has no fur left and she has blisters. She’s 10 years old but she’s only had this problem for 2 years. Her vet gives her shots every 3 months which helped for awhile but now it’s not helping much. What is wrong with this picture? Should I be more concerned?
Here’s a picture of what she looks like.

She doesn’t scratch as if she is itching- but i have used pet shampoo for dandruff just incase. I brush her and feed her fish oil…but still she pulls out her fur in HUGE globs. She does this EVERY DAY…all day long. She should be bald by now! This has been going on for a year and a half. I think it might be physicological. Any ideas?

My Ragdoll is beginning to shed a little due to the warmer weather, so I have started brushing him with a slicker brush. It seems the more I brush him, the more matts he gets! The brush fills his fur with static and sparks us both which is not much fun, and he just seems to be more matted for all my trouble. Last year I was too busy to brush him very much and he didn’t develop any matts at all, but got a lot more hairballs.
So, if you have experience with long haired cats, what’s the best grooming tool? Are combs a better choice? By the way, I groom him right down to the base of the hair the way you’re supposed to, so it’s not that I’m not doing a thorough job – it just seems the more I brush, the more matts I get! Help!
Thanks Cafe – the breeder just told me to brush him – and she has since died anyway so I’m on my own. Everything I’ve looked up has advised using brushes. Unless you know what you’re looking for, it’s hard to know what is or is not true. Thanks for the advice though – that’s what I needed to help. FYI – he’s not tortured – he enjoys it…it’s just not doing any good!

She is chubby. Big, but small cat, if you know what I mean. Green eyes, black mask. VERY affectionate… Pretty active. (jumped 2 meters) doesn’t hunt very often. always fighting with her sister.
She is the odd one out. The litter was five whites and one black and white. Her! so, im guessing her dad.. was black and white. Anyway, here are photos, have you any idea what breeds are in her? I know she is sort of tabbyish, because when the lighting is right, you can see faint stripes on her fur.

Thanks!

She just keeps licking and licking at her tummy and bacl thighs. Pulls all the fur out. The skin underneath doesn’t seem irritated or anything.
She’s around 7-8 years old, fixed, and is about a year overdue for her maintenance shots.
