I am very worried about a feral cat I take care of. I have been taking care of the generations of this cat "pride" since I moved to my house here five years ago. Sometimes they aren’t so wild, and the cat I am writing about is sweet and lets me pet him. Yesterday I noticed that he has been attacked by some other, larger animal by his tail. It looks like where his tail meets the rest of his body is just raw and painful from the wound. Skin and hair has been ripped off in about an inch diameter all around the tail, and there are deep puncture fang marks as well. I got close enough to see it is in fact, infected. Its also been about 100 degrees outside and I am really worried for this guy.

Should I try to cut the fut away from the wound, and if I do, what next? I know I need to sanatize the wound, but I am afraid hydrogen peroxide would sting and hurt him really bad, this wound is pretty fierce. I can’t afford to take him to the vet right now, but I want to do what I can to help him.
I forgot to mention I have to indoor cats who are very teritorial, so I can’t bring him inside. Even if I shut him in the bathroom, they would smell him. Last time I did that with a feral kitten we got infested with fleas.

I did use some peroxide on him and he didn’t seem to mind a bit. I really appreciate being told it wouldn’t sting him, I really thought it would. I am going to keep doing that and then slather some triple antibiotic cream on him.

If anyone else has any more suggestions, please feel free to leave them here, Lionel (the kitty) thanks you in advance.

They are indoor cats. The fleas came from a cat tree we bought from a store (had for 1 1/2 months). Didn’t realize it was the source until a week ago. All responses are appreciated!

How to prevent an indoor cat of getting fleas?

My cat is an indoor cat ans she NEVER goes outside. That makes the risk of getting fleas lower, but still, it can happen.
Someone plzzzzz tell me how to prevent this from happening!!!!!
Btw my cat is young (i.e., not a kitten, senior, or adult)

Or prevent the litter that is thrown everywhere?

NOTE: I have an automatic litterbox so he’s not rolling in a dirty box.
He’s already neutered, declawed, and he has no fleas.

My cat is 4 years old and is an indoor cat, I noticed a month or two ago some fleas so I bought him a flea collar. I was petting him and noticed under his flea collar there were about 3 or 4 red, bloody sores. They don’t seem to irritate him but should I take him to the vet or just leave it alone? He still has the fleas…

Is it difficult to have an indoor cat?

Is it possible it can affect your health(fleas, other diseases)?
How much do vaccines cost?
Oh and something else, when you sleep at night can the cat come and scratch you or something?
You see i’m thinking of taking an indoor cat in a few years so i’m doing a research.

why does my cat keep scratching herself?

My cat, who is an indoor cat, just got fleas about a month ago. Everything got better and she’s now permanently on flea medication, but for the past week or so she seems to be scratching herself a lot. She’s also been having a lot of dandruff, and I’m not sure if that’s from all the scratching. I looked through her fur and at her skin but everything seems okay.

My cat is always scratching and gnawing on her tail and back. I can feel small scabs. She does not go outside. Is it fleas? I bought a collar 3 weeks ago and it is doing nothing. I also just found out that the apt above me has bedbugs. I checked my bed and apt and see no signs of them. I am not being bitten. My cat sleeps mostly in the kitchen and on my bed with me. Could she be being bit by them? Like I said, I do not have any bites.

We = my family

He’s been scratching a LOT and I found a really weird bump on his head. He walked away from me when I found it, kinda miffed I thought.

He slept on my bed and some clothes I hadn’t put up yet. Will washing everything get rid of any fleas that may be there? I wanted to have a friend sleep over but I don’t want to if the cat’s infected.
