Is there any oral flea medication that are safe an effective for feral cats? I feed 4 to 5 feral cats daily, all which have been trapped, neutered, vaccinated and released. Their healths have dramatically improved over the last year or so, but i do find them scratching sometimes. One of the feral cats has warmed up to me only to pet her, so give her Revolution, and it works great on her. The others are too skiddish to come within 3 feet of me, so i can’t apply the traditional flea medicatios for them. Anybody know of any products or suggestions for this minor dilemma?
Also, retrapping them to take to a vet is not an options since it was very traumatic the first time when they were trapped to get fixed, and I don’t want to put them through that again.

Feral cats, Feral dogs, Feral pigs etc… what should be done to save the native birds of Hawaii who are predated on by these non-native animals? Should they be removed, culled?

What can I do to help keep my feral cats warm?

It is SO cold out today and for the rest of the week. Single digits & below zero temps. They have a plastic dog house with straw & blankets but I don’t know what else to do to help them stay warm. I have seen those electric heating pads but they are expensive & I worry about them catching fire.

And before people yell at me for caring for feral cats…I spent a whole summer trapping them & getting them spayed & neutered so I see nothing wrong with providing them food & shelter.
They have an electric water bowl & plenty of food…where did you find a heated pad for under ? I saw them at the pet store for arond +.

I’m looking for an organization such as the Feral Cats Coalition that is operating in South Florida. Just wanting to get involved. Any information or links would be greatly appreciated!

Here’s my story. About four years ago, my mother and I would feed the cats we saw starving outdoors. We had noticed there were quite a few in our area. One day, three cats started
showing up in our yard (two females and one male). There were two tabbies and a siamese that would hang out together. My mother thought the siamese was beautiful. She wanted her so bad, that we decided to trap them in the house. At first they freaked out, but after a month they calmed down. Several weeks later, the females gave birth. After 8 weeks, we gave about 1/2 the kittens away. Since the adult cats had adjusted to our home, my mother decided to send them to the humane society. I wanted to keep them, but we couldn’t since it was difficult to control them, and we had no place to keep them when we were getting the house tinted. Besides, the kittens were fixed, and showed no signs of any diseases. Which likely means that the parents were okay as well. One of my kittens, who’s now 3 1/2, is very restless. Even though he was raised indoors, he cries a lot and climbs the screens of the picture window. Sometimes I find him sitting in the doorway, just sitting there as if he wanted to get out. Do the offspring of feral cats want to live outside, or is my cat just curious? He’s very friendly and affectionate, and likes to climb on the bed next to me at night. I’m wondering if he’s just bored, or if he really wants to get out. I don’t want to let him out, because I lost too many cats as a child to car accidents. The cat was born and raised indoors.

I need assistance with placing 2 Feral Cats?

there were stray kittens (about 6 months or so) that lived out in a shed by my condo. I have talked with my neighbors and they said they think they have seen the mother who is a local stray. I however have not seen this one.
Currently I have two of the feral cats in my home.
Would there be a place I could bring them such as a sanctuary where they won’t be euthanized? I considered getting the spayed and re-releasing them here, but the neighbors had been complaining and I am afraid that that would result in them being caught and put to sleep.

any help would be great.
Thank you.
oh and I live in Massachusetts..

Does it make sense to tame adult feral cats?

I’m helping some friends TNR feral cats but instead of releasing them, they’ve been taming them and trying to find homes for them. I just don’t think it’s realistic and even so tame cats could use these homes, where as the ferals might be more comfortable in a farm setting. What do you think?
My first feral I tamed. Didn’t turn, she was just shy but not anymore than some tame cats I’ve owned. So it’s not impossible I just wonder if it’s logical (I didn’t know much about ferals when I first came across one)

Is it safe to have feral cats sleep on deck?

I put my dog’s old bed out on the deck for the feral cats that eat on my neighbor’s deck (the decks are basically touching one another and cats constantly cross over). It’s pretty cold out and so I wanted to give them a warm bed to sleep on. I’ve never dealt with feral cats but there are so many in this neighborhood and so I feel for them sometimes. My concern is if this is a bad idea from the standpoint of my pet dog who goes out on the deck everyday. Is there anything to worry about with the bed? My dog goes to sniff on it everytime she goes out (she is so interested in cats). I sprayed the bed with flea and tick spray for indoor use. Is there anything else I should worry about or should it be ok? The two or so cats that use it look so comfy in it. It is out in the open so it does get wet but the cats use it as soon as it dries out. I don’t want to take it away, but if it is not a good idea I’d like to know. Thanks!
Thanks for responses so far. The cats cross into my deck everyday due to the feeding on the adjacent deck. So my dog always gets hissed at by the cats when she goes on the deck. The only way to keep my dog away from them would be to keep her indoors. The people around here who feed them (and there are a lot of people who do and a lot of cats) plan to continue without trapping them for spay/neuter. I do not feed them whatsoever; I just put the dog bed out there a few weeks ago. Removing the bed will not keep the cats from my deck. So I’m really just wondering if the bed poses any concerns for my dog. (i.e. can my dog catch anything from the bed.)

how easy is it to tame feral cats?

they want to hunt the feral cats in NJ. people think the TNR works better.
some people even think they can be caught and adopted out

but I am doubtful, that most cats, if they are a 9th generation wild-feral cat, can be rounded up after living wild for 3 years, and turned into a docile, functional pet.

They do it with the horses. but could it be done with cats? I only had kittens that were feral born and tamed them. I never caught a felis cattus that has 20 ancestors that have been living without human encounters.

and, if they make cats "wild life", they say it’ll be legal to kill them, and sell the fur and meat.
I know cats eat wild native wildlife, but why aren’t there people saying "let’s have open season on mustangs"?

because horses are environmentally low impact, and a cat dosen’t symbolize anything to America.

are they in the backyard, streets? do they leap into houses through the windows, walk on your balcony, sit on your windowsill? are there loads of them?
every yard has them, my parents’ yard got about fifteen. some yards got more. i counted twenty five in one yard. they walk on roofs and leap from garbag cans. one cat brought her five kittens into my parents building and hid them in the electricity closet outside my paretns’ door, third floor. my father chases them off his car every time he goes to it because they always sleep on the cars. i went to a job agency and above the lady’s head, (she was sitting at the desk), a feral cat was settling down on the windowsill outside. mother and kitten ran into a watches store and killed a sparrow in there and i saw one living in a shopping center and dozens living in the colleg’s yard.
i’ve fed so many feral cats i’ve lost count… and took several to the vet, but because there are millions and billions of them the shelters are full, so when they were healthy she just let them go where i found them, (california weather, no one freezes).
i have a huge, mean, slanted eyes black feral cat living in my house right now and my brother has a female feral; white, orange and gray. very bad tempered.
i asked where you’re from because when i lived in chicago for nine years i barely saw them. so some places don’t have them at all.
thanks, everyone. you’re great. nice to know others are helping out, too.
