terrified ragdoll cat?

I have had a ragdoll kitten (approx 8 months) left with me. Apparently it was terrorised by the owners family and she then took it back to the pet shop after 5 months and told them it was "horrid" and she would not pay to have it put down. It is totally terrified and spends all its time under the lounge, or under anywhere it can hide. Once I manage to drag it out it lets you pat it and hold it. Does not fight with the other cats here but the minute you release your hold it bounces of the walls and doors to get away and hides again. It has been here for nearly 3 weeks (unfortunately my niece was working at the pet shop and when they said they were going to get it put down she asked could she take it to ME!) It is not desexed and I cannot afford to get it done and I really don’t know if that would be worthwhile as all it does is hide. It comes out to eat of a night (I presume as the food disappears) I have the side of my house enclosed and a cat house at the back which is connected by a wire mesh tunnel which the cats travel along I already have six cats and one kitten (black) which was put over my fence on Xmas Day in a box. Lucky my dogs did not harm it

How do I get my dogs to get along with my cat?

Okay, so…

Back in December, my boyfriend and I made a short move out to the state of Wyoming and back. He had a cat at the time that we could not take with us, and we left it with my sister. She already had two cats, a male and female, who from December to now could not manage to get along with his cat. She wanted to keep him, but her cats were always fighting with him. So, today we decided to try bringing him home to our apartment.

When we were out in Wyoming, we got a German Shepherd puppy (now almost 8 months). I also already had a pomeranian (age 4 1/2). Those two get along okay, not great, but the pom tolerates the puppy pretty good. They aren’t best friends, as the puppy is too energetic for the pom’s liking. But I digress back to the cat.

So, we brought him home today.

Immediately the GSD went up to the cat carrier and the cat got PISSED. He started hissing and spitting and swatting. We tried to introduce them slowly, taking the cat out of the carrier and holding him and letting them sniff each other. The cat ran behind the TV. So, we got the cat out, and put him up in a high spot on his cat tower. He stayed there for hours. At first he was still growling and hissing, then he was quiet, and just stayed up there.

Later on, I took him down, to take him in the other room - away from the dogs - to give him attention. He was just tense. Curled up in a corner. Wouldn’t move.

So, I brought him back out to the kitchen, and put him on the table with his food and water. He wants no food, and no water. Still won’t move from wherever I put him. He took a few swats at the german shepherd.

Whenever we pet the cat, or pay attention to the cat, the dogs go nuts. Barking, whining, circling. The cat gets more nervous.

What can I do?

I’ve tried backing them off into the other room, telling them to sit, lay down, saying no when they bark. They’re too worked up to listen. They’re normally very obedient. Even the leave it command doesn’t work with this situation.

Will it get better over time?

I’m feeling really bad for the kitty!
I will not get the cat declawed. I view it as cruelty. I have thought about applying soft claws to his nails, but in he event that one of my dogs does actually try to hurt the cat, I want him to be able to defend himself.

The problem is more the cat. The dogs are just excited that he his here. The cat is the one being the meanie. Which I don’t really understand as he was just fine with my boyfriend’s old land lord’s German Shepherd.

My feamale cat getting spade,?

I’m not a cat person so I’m not sure, I picked her up as a stray and she is getting spade tomorrow. Do cats get that little tunnel thing like dogs do?
Also my cat is a total spaz and although she rips things up sometimes or I have to yell at her alot, I like her being hyperactive and I was wondering if getting her spade will clam her down, I play with her everyday and I plan to till she passes which won’t be for awhile.

My uncle has 7 cats with two litter boxes and 3 dogs in his house, and his wife wants to keep the animals but it seems to be causing allergic reactions with family members. We are trying now to find state laws that say how many cats a person can have like I believe there is a law you can only have two or three dogs. But we were wondering what laws there were to owning too many animals. Please sites about animals or even government sites would help with this problem. Plus its a 4 member household.

I feel like a horrible cat owner =(?

I currently own 2 male (fixed) tuxedo cats. They are both indoor.

The other night, I come home to my appt and my door is WIDE open and both cats are gone. Thankfully I got them back.

But since Ace (the oldest) has been meowing at the door, clawing at it, or falling asleep by it.

Its breaking my heart! I want to let him out so badly but there are MANY ferral cats/dogs/coyotes in my area. Plus my apartment is RIGHT on the road.

I try my best to keep them intertained. They have a 9ft cat tree. A 3ftx3ft cat tent. A crinkly tunnel thing, and PLENTLY of cat toys. I leave 2 windows open all the time for them to look out or sunbath themselves.

I still feel bad. I mean, I live in a small place.. a studio apartment.. is there anything else I can do to keep them stimulated??

thank you!

I have a kitten she is about 11months old and I love her so much but I do not have my own place right now I am living with my sister and she has 2 dogs that are not cat friendly at all so my poor kitty has to be stuck in my little room all the time and it kills me but when I got her everyone said she would be fine and in time they would get along but I am too scared to even chance it if they hurt her I would die and I hate having her stuck in a room all the time especially since I work and go to school so she is alone alot but in such a small room i cant get her a "friend" its too small they wouldn’t have enough room to get away from each other..
