As soon as i noticed he was scratching the couch I covered the trouble area (mostly the corners of the couch) in tin foil, and started putting cat nip on his scratching post. It seems to have worked but I need something more permanent and more visually pleasing than tin foil to protect it. Any ideas?

I have right now a new 3 month old cat Even my little baby cat sits around in this one spot on my couch all day( and he likes corners and boxes a lot)! But eventualy we’ll pick him u and snuggle with him. We like to hold him like a baby and when we cuddle with him he doesn’t smile or anything he stares at you with his giant eyes. At night he’ll sleep in a tower thing and if you ook at it hell stixck his paw(adorable but with razors on the end) out at you all threatning its so hilarious you’d have to see!

I read that this really helps cats from vertical scratching… But I really want something that works. Anyone tried this before, what was your experience or have you tried anything else that works?

I have tried scratching posts and he just wants nothing to do with them. He has 2 areas that he scratches (mattress and couch..grr) so i was wondering if spraying those spots with this product would help, or if there is another product that works well. Thanks!

I have 3 cats. I put a flat sheet on our queen bed for sanitary reasons. My husband buys loose cat nip and puts it on the bed. Also he puts (loose) dry cat food on the bed. He thinks this is fine. Now when i go to bed i have to shake out the sheet. He thinks this is fine. What is your opinion on this. I think it is beyond stupid. Our couch has turned into a wool blanket with cat nip. Is this reasonable . Who sleeps in a food trough?

Why is my cat peeing outside the litter box?

He peed over one main section of the ouch - numerous times. The litter box is clean, I treat him well (he cannot be mad at me), is fed well, and he has access to the litter box. He poops in the litter box, though. Could he be spraying yet? He is 3 months. I am desperate, as my couch STINKS. Thanks.

i probably should have explained it better in my first post. my kitten doesn’t just jump up on counters and the couch the claws and scratches her way up… but maybe im just suppose to let her destroy and run my house.

My husband and i are considering getting one of our neighbors kittens. they are about 3 months+ old. aside from the smell of the litter box dust, and cat hair everywhere i’m almost ok with the idea… one major issue though is scratching. these kittens scratch all the time. i have a nice couch and a fancy area rug my husband brought home from afghanistan that i will not see get ruined. will a scratching post actually prevent my stuff from getting scratched?

My husband and I adopted an 11 wk old kitten on Monday, and last night she finally felt comfortable enough to really explore the house. Well, exploring turned into climbing the couch! So I brought her scratching post downstairs for her to scratch on, but she’s not interested in it. Any suggestions on how to turn her claws to the post instead of the furniture?
*first time cat owner, can you tell?*

My family adopted this stray cat (a couple of years ago), and after we had him for a little while, he started peeing on our furniture/carpet. We first showed him the litter box, just to make sure he knew it was there and what it was for, that didn’t help. We got him neutered, that helped for a while, but he started peeing again. We tried rubbing his nose in it and yelling at him when we would catch him, that didn’t help.

Recently he has been peeing on the same thing over and over again, an odomen (sp?) in the living room. I have been researching about how to get him stop, and I really believe it is behavioral, but i don’t think he is being territorial with this surface because he doesn’t sleep on it at all and he is very capable of accessing it. He usually sleeps on my mom’s side of the couch or in the cat tower next to it, but he never pees on those. BTW I don’t think the problem is physiological, but it is not completely ruled out.

I don’t think he pees on it to say he is mad at anyone because nobody ever uses it, so he can’t associate it with anyone in the house. The litter box is cleaned constantly as two other cats live in the house, we have two boxes. I also don’t think he is trying to say anything to other cats either, i think he already thinks he is the dominate one in the house.

What do I do? I am sick of the smell. I find it very embarrassing and don’t let people come into my home because I don’t want them to smell my naughty cat. I want to get rid of him, but my mom loves him, and she is the only one he likes. I won’t get rid of him if he stops, but i just can’t take his piss anymore. All these years of smelling cat pee is freaking disgusting.

Cute, crazy cat behavior.?

My cat has took to perching himself on top my couch and when I (or anyone else) walk past if I am not looking at him he swats me on the arm. Its not like a playful I’m gonna gettcha thing but like a hey B whats up kinda thing. He also does the same thing to his sister and uncle (lol both cats) when he is on a higher surface then them and they walk past. just an arm out to stop them or touch them but no claws. i know most behavior is like stuff they do in the wild. What is he doing or is he just a weirdo.

Also for a mental Image it’s kinda like what a bouncer dose at a club do.
