This cat hasn’t been with me for long (about a month and a half), I found him as a stray and the owner never showed up to claim him, he was already neutered. He’s always been really good about using the litter box, but in the past few days he’s been doing it in whichever bed he’s on when he feels like it (he has two beds of his own and he uses mine as well, he spends more time on my bed than on his so that’s where he’s been going most of the time, but he doesn’t seem to have any problems with using his own beds as toilets).
This cat has never been in good health, he’s been in and out of the vet clinic ever since I got him to treat his rhinotracheitis (mainly, he had several other problems from being on the street). The first time he pooped outside the box was on the way to the vet, when he pooped inside his cat carrier (about a week ago), since then it’s been getting worse.
Even though I recently switched to Royal Canin Exigent (he wouldn’t eat what I usually gave him*) his feces seem normal, firm and darkish brown. Also, he’s been taking pills (vet prescribed) for weeks now and doing daily nebulizations (which he doesn’t like), could the stress of treatment and frequent vet visits finally have caught up to him? Or could he have some yet undetected problem?
He also has a bad leg so he limps a little, probably from getting hit or kicked while on the street. He suffered muscle wasting due to starvation (on his whole body, but more so on the bad leg).
*Royal Canin is one of the best brands of food available where I live (not US, so no such thing as nutro, or innova evo, or any of the really good ones) I was trying to feed him a local brand that had more meat in it but he didn’t like it.
It’s more like he’s pooping wherever he’s at. Today he slept on a folded blanket that happened to be on the floor (he can’t get on the bed on his own because of his bad leg) and he pooped there as well.
Cats tend to dislike dirtying the places they sleep at don’t they? Also his litter box is scooped once a day.
