OK here’s the deal: I have a Siamese cat that is constantly scratching his neck. This condition started about 2 years ago when he started scratching so much that he cut his neck open. There was blood everywhere. I took him to the vet, and the vet put a cone on him. We put him on antibiotics and steroids and special cat food.

Well, he’s still scratching, 2 years later. He doesn’t have fleas and the vet can’t figure out what’s wrong with him. He’s still on his prescription cat food. I have a hepa filter vacuum cleaner, a special air filter for my heater/air conditioner. He has never once has been outside or around other animals. Any ideas?
No he doesn’t have fleas, He’s on perscription food, and i’ve been to 2 different vets.

What is your view on them, what do you think should be done to/about them?

I get the idea that where you are from changes this, was just wondering if I’m right, so include … where you are, what pets you have, experience/knowledge with feral cats, why you think what you do, etc.
Hmm, I think this is interesting, here in Australia we think of feral cats as a whole differently I think, but I also think what we call a feral cat you might not even have over there. What you are talking about sounds like a stray, which I think there is a fine line between, that blurs, but a stray would be one that depends on humans at least partially and quite close in their geneline were pets. Here we have feral cats that live in the outback and all over where there are no humans and because there are few natural predators, they are completely imbalancing the food web and endangering all our little animals. These are far from being able to be tamed or even fed by humans, they’ve lived in the wild for hundreds of years, and neutering them wouldn’t help with the 20+ native creatures they kill every night. I dunno, I was hoping someone from Australia might answer to see if it’s only people that I know that think of them in terms of wildlife-killers rather than pets run-amok.
Dan, I suppose if all the cats were sterilized and fed, then the issue would be resolved, but as others pointed out .. if only a few were missed the population could bounce back. However, it would be completely impossible. I’m not sure of the exact numbers, but I knwo there is at least 1 feral cat per square km in Australia, and there are a LOT of square kms. Which means a LOT of cats, and do you realise what it takes to sterilize a cat? You have the cost of the medicines, equipment, and staff, and any older cat risks dieing from the anasthesia already. It just isn’t an option (same with feeding them).
BUT, that being said, I love cats and it’s horrible to think of these cats as different to our own, but is the life of one cat more important than the lives of the thousands of native animals each one hunts to the brink of extinction? I don’t know it’s a tough question, I can’t figure out exactly where I stand.

P.S. I have one ex-stray cat and an abandoned dog and cat.

My uncle has 7 cats with two litter boxes and 3 dogs in his house, and his wife wants to keep the animals but it seems to be causing allergic reactions with family members. We are trying now to find state laws that say how many cats a person can have like I believe there is a law you can only have two or three dogs. But we were wondering what laws there were to owning too many animals. Please sites about animals or even government sites would help with this problem. Plus its a 4 member household.

ok first off… please take me seriously. i don’t want BS. so back in july on just an ordinary day i went into a room to find my cat. i thought it would be funny to put a cup over his head to see how he would react. he ended up being frightened and running under the bed. then he jumped back up onto his perch and moments later he cried out. i went yelling for my parents and he was dead by the time we got him to the vet. i miss him very much and can never forgive myself for this. i didn’t mean to hurt him. i always used to goof around with him. i do admit it was stupid that i did it. another thing is he did have heart problems, but did not know to what extent. maybe i triggered a heart attack. please help this has been taking over my whole mind for the past half year. should i tell my parents what really happened… perhaps a few years from now. i don’t know i’m just a mess. i also want to make it very clear this was not intentional i love animals very much. and i really miss my sweet cat. he was a good cat. and i also want to know will God forgive me if this really was my fault? and about the rainbow bridge? will i be reunited and will my cat forgive me?

My son and his friends learn in school that feral cats are causing our native birds to become extinct. They have decided to start hunting the feral cats in the wood area near our home where there a lot of them. Animal control has been asked to trap these animals but refuse to. Can my son get in trouble for doing this to save the native birds?

anybody know what brand or where i can find cat toys that use real animal fur? i found this mouse about a month ago that used rabbit fur that my cats really liked. any suggestions?

I am hoping to adopt a 2 1/2 year old lynx point siamese this weekend and introduce her into a home with a 6 year old siamese and a 6 year old dog. The dog is great with other animals, the cat is better with other dogs but ok with other cats after a while. They have been together since they were 10 weeks old. The kitty I’m hoping to introduce seems a bit traumatized and was separated from her littermate after they were taken to the rescue. She has no expereicne with dogs.

4 weeks ago i got a puppy and i have 2 cats, one of the cats is fine with him but the other just stalks the puppy and if it comes to near to him he scratches the puppy - the puppy doesn’t even go near him on purpose and stays away from the cat. The cat has scratched him so many times we are wrorried he will catch him in the eye. Everytime the puppy goes into another room the cat follows him. The cat is fine with humans but hates other animals including the other cat. We had a dog untill it died about 4 years ago and the cat was ok with her but when we got the cat the dog was older and the cat was a kitten. We tell the cat off when he scratches the puppy but it doesn’t seem to be doing anything, and we dont want to get a crate for the puppy. We have also tried to separate the cat from the puppy but as soon as we let him out he starts looking for the puppy again. Is there a way to get the cat to accept the puppy?
