Stop my cat from climbing my beautiful Christmas tree.?

My little kitty, keeps climbing my tree, knocking off the top star and chewing on it. Right now, I have her locked up in my room with me so that she can’t access the tree but I don’t think its working out so well for the both of us…

a spray bottle with a bit of water in it to spray her with when she does it or a soda can with some small rocks in it to shake and startle her when she try to climb. she is just haven a bit of kitty fun,all you need to do is relate this action as a no no to her in a non harm full way

The fence idea is stupid and looks ugly. The fact of the matter is you only have a few options and one is to lock it in the room. The other is a cat carrier. I’d chose the room.
Three options!
Get another tree…one for you and one for kitty
Take the tree down
Let kitty climb and enjoy the beauty of cats
Put foil at the bottom of the tree. Cats don’t like foil.
try putting a bunch of stuff under the tree to block her.
I’ll go for locking the kitten in your room, climbing it’s a natural habit from cats it can’t be avoided.

If you’re trying to scold at your kitten for climbing/attacking your Christmas Tree, these are some possible ways to say (Dont touch the tree):
A) Put a barrier of some sort around your Christmass Tree to prevent your cat from making contact
B) I’m sure there are some kinds of materials they sell that repel cats (Liquids?) that you can use (NOT ON YOUR CAT). You could put it on your Christmas Tree or around it to prevent your cat from coming near.
C) (IF) You’r Christmas Tree is in a room that you dont use very much (that has a door) just close the door when no ones using it or when someones in it.
D) Keep watch and everytime you see your cat going near the Christmas Tree, carry him/her away.
E) Occupy your cat, you could get him/her a scratching post, a self automated toy, a remote controlled mouse (Yes they do sell those, I know for a fact ((I have one)) ).
F) This isnt exactly my best choice…Shut her up in a room with marbles and toys that she could play with, and someone to play with (I wouldnt though)
G) Get/Make something that would grab your cat’s attention from the tree (You could take some boxes and make a play house or a tunnel of some sort, or buy a post or play pen)
H) Again, not the best choice, move you Christmas Tree to a basement or attic (Somewhere that you dont use) until (A couple days before?) Christmas Eve or Chrismas
I) If there are ornaments and other strings and catchy things on your Christmas tree remove them until Christmas Eve- You could have a family get-to-gether and hang them back up again
J) Punish your cat (Not harshly) everytime he jumps on your tree, spray it, flick it’s nose, toss it (GENTLY) away, ect
Some solutions (Above) arent even saying (NO). They’re just other ways to prevent your cat from attacking your Christmas Tree.
How ever if you’re cat keeps eating smaller plants, other ways of saying (Dont eat plants!) are:
A) Spraying the plant(s) with repelant
B) Moving the plant(s) to a higher area, unreachable for your kitten
C) Flicking your kitten’s nose when ever he/she tries to eat or damage the plant
D) When ever your kitten tries to eat part of the plant, pry open (Not harshly) his/her mouth and take the remaining plant out of his/her mouth and push your kitten away
E) Either put something near your plant(s) to scare your cat every time he/she gets near it, or scare your cat yourself when ever your cat gets near the plant
As you can see there are many possible ways to prevent your cat from doing something wrong without scolding at your cat, or scolding your cat in many diffrent ways to prevent him/her from doing something wrong.
Other ways to scold at your cat may include:
A) Locking your cat in a room (Not for long, the least you could do is put a couple of toys and needed items ((Such as litter box, food, ect.)) in the room) whenever she/he does something wrong repeatedly.
B) Shake him/her GENTLY, for a few SECONDS. Do NOT (I repeat ((!NOT!)) shake your cat brutally AND for more then three seconds at the maximum when ever he/she does something wrong repeatedly.
C) Puting a leash on your cat (Do not put a short leash on your cat unless needed or for serious safety reasons) until he/she learns not to do what ever he/she is doing wrong.
So there are many solutions. Scolding or not, you’r cat will just have to learn either way!

The cats see very good.They see the christmas tree glancing.They like…O…hohohoh…Maybe is a special food for me…So,give to she a one ball.She will understand it is not food.

Some cats will show mild interest when the tree is first put up, then will leave it alone. Hopefully, your cat is one of those! But more likely, and especially if you have kittens, they will be very curious and will delight in jumping on and climbing your tree. There is no sure-fire way to stop this, but there are some things you can do to keep the damage to a minimum.
Try to place your tree away from any shelving units or other furniture that can act as a launching pad for your kitty. Some people have found it helpful to attach fishing line or wire to the tree and then attach it to the ceiling or a wall. That way, if kitty does make the leap into the tree it will be less likely to topple. Stay away from breakable ornaments if possible, or place them strategically in areas of the tree that seem to be “less popular” for your cat.
Do NOT use the icicle or tinsel type of garland, as these are very attractive to cats and easily ingested. The bead type of garland is safer, but you should check it often for signs that the cat is trying to chew threw the roping.
There are usually more electrical cords in your house this time of year. Make sure these are hidden from the cats as much as possible, as they can get electrocuted if they chew on them. To make them as unobtrusive as possible, you can find covers for electrical cords that lay along the floor at home improvement or office supply stores.
There are several different types of sprays on the market that supposedly keep cats away from the items you spray with them. We here at The Cat Clinic of Roswell cannot vouch for the safety or effectiveness of any of these sprays, so use with caution.
There is a product called a Scat-Mat that keeps cats off counters, sofas, etc. by delivering a mild electric charge (similar to a static charge) when they step on it. This mat also comes in a semi-circular shape that is perfect for putting around the bottom of a tree. The product is sold through the company website, http://www.scatmat.com.
Many people also put a decorative gate or fence around their trees; this is good for pets as well as toddlers.
I put up my tree really early in november and left the decorations off because I just got a kitten the month before. I knew my cat was bound to try and climb it and she did, 3 times. I never left her and the tree unattended and so I was always around to correct her.
Make sure you always catch your cat climbing it. If you correct your cat everytime, it shouldn’t take long before she realizes her crime isn’t paying. Once my kitty got the idea, then I put the decorations on and started correcting on that too!! My kitty leaves the tree alone now. Good luck to you and your kitty!

Try putting some orange peels at the base of the tree. Cats don’t like the smell of citrus and will stay away from it. A plus to this is that it will make the room smell fresh also!
If you aren’t into that citrus fresh smell yourself, you could use aluminum foil like others have said. Cats don’t like to step on it.
Also, you could put double sided tape on the trunk of the tree. You don’t have to cover it completely, just put it in a few key spots. After kitty’s paws feel the tape, she won’t want to go back.

Cats climb trees. It is a normal part of their life. You can try some of these things listed here if it makes you feel better but the simple fact is. Cats climb trees.
Since they also jump the barrier or foil option will just cause them to jump into the tree. If the cat is small then right now it is probably just messing with things. If it jumps then it will probably pull your tree over. Spray bottle might work if there is someone there with it 24 hours a day. Locking it up will stop the problem but will also mean keeping guard on the cat until the x-mas season is over and will also damage your bond with your cat (would you like someone to spry you with water or lock you in a room by yourself for doing what comes naturally?).
The cat will outgrow climbing in a tree when it gets too big for the branches to support it’s weight. Until then put a small hook in the ceiling above the tree to stabilize it (if possible) and instead of hanging ornaments on the tree you might try wrapping the wire hooks around the tree branches. For the top ornament try tieing it on with florist wire.
Try all of the following:
-Plant hooks to ceiling – fishing line from tree to hooks from several angles. Tree won’t fall.
-Carpet at base – no breakage
-Foil at base – frighten kitties
-Ballons at base – as soon as they pop one – they won’t forget
-Infrared light beam security device that emits siren when cute but evil kitties come near. These are cheap at Radio Shack
-Scatmat – pressure sensitive round mat emits siren/electric charge
If you can time any horrible loud noise – that they don’t associate with you – but with being near the tree – that will work. Stack some empty pots and pans – rig with string – pull string when they go near tree. Don’t let them see you doing it – they must think the tree is out to get them.
