So my cat likes to take his toys and put them in his water bowl. He leaves the toys there then later takes?
them out to play with them. My grandpa sais he is trying to kill his "prey" by drowning the toy. Has anyone had a cat do this before? I have had cats my whole life, and never had one do that. Is he really trying to kill the toy before throwing it around?

It just might be that your cat is trying to find a "safe" place for his favorite things. It often happens that the toy that ends up in the water or food bowl is often a toy that has recently been enjoyed by your cat, or even by your cat with you. In the wild, cats often take their prey back to their "nest" area, and hide it from predators. Indoor cats don’t really have a "nest" per se, so they often consider their food and water dishes as the "safest" areas within their "territory."
I have never heard of a cat trying to drown their prey, even if it is a toy. So I don’t think so.
My cat likes to carry around a specific toy, and when he is done, he’ll put it in the cat food bowl, and come back for it later.
Maybe its just some silly cat thing. =]
i never new cats tried to drown there prey. if he is acting funny take him to the vet
it probably is trying to kill it’s prey. If the cat is a kitten then it is warming up for later in it’s life. If it’s an adult then theres still nothing to worry about. It’s just having some fun and just doing things it’s natural way.
I’m not sure if he’s trying to kill it… but my little Zoey does the same thing. She takes milk caps, ball of foil, etc. Once she dropped a remote control car in her water bowl. She killed it good that time
Some breeds of cats, especially Maine Coons, enjoy playing in water and getting their toys wet.
I don’t think he is trying to kill his toy, I think he is just enjoying himself.
He’s probably just thinks its fun to see the toy roll around in the water. How old is the cat?
Lol, I’ve never heard of a cat doing that. However, they’re notorious for their hunting skills, so it’s totally plausible. Could be they have a penchant for fish. Maybe try getting a secure water tank with fish that it can stare it, might solve it’s water/fish fix.
I currently have a cat that puts fuzzy pom pom balls and fuzzy mice in her water dish. I have previously had a cat that did the exact same thing (only fuzzy toys). It makes me chuckle when I see her playing with something and then find it in her water bowl a minute later.
I cannot explain it but I can tell you that it’s not uncommon behavior.
