Something with catnip. Cats usually go crazy for it.
My 10 y/o cat likes paper balls. I only let him play with them under human supervision because he likes to bite pieces of it off and I don’t want him swallowing them.
He also loves it when I throw dry cat food on the floor down the hallway. He loves running after it, batting it around, then eating it. I think he associates it with hunting. But I have to use a different food then what he eats for his meals, otherwise he won’t touch it. I don’t use treats because they’re unhealthy. I just buy a small bag of some other kind of food and use that.
Paper bags are always exciting, for awhile anyway.
I like to provide my inside cats with some exciting mental stimulation. I feed birds and squirrels outside my windows so the cats can sit and watch them. They really get excited seeing all those little birdies out there.
With older cats, you really have to think outside the box. After they start getting up there in age they turn into fuddy-duddies.
Have you tried a laser light. My 2 cats loved that even when they were 15 & 16 years old.
My old cat (15 years) still likes to chase a string pulled across the floor like a snake. She likes a bit of catnip sometimes. She also likes her scratch pad. The best toy she got lately is called "smartykat". ( http://www.worldwise.com )Its a cloth mouse and can be refilled several times. It comes with organic catnip. Its the only toy she keeps coming back to. She’s on her third one because the dog steals them. She still likes to play at her age but the only difference is she only plays for a shorter time then after a rest wants to play again.
i have a 12 year old cat too. he likes this catnip filled log type thing with a spring and ball on top. cat nip drives him crazy. lol. he also lives his little furry mice i think that theres a little catnip inside those too.
