They won't cut your cats' ears off for no reason - they only do that so they can differentiate between cats that have already been fixed and vaccinated and cats that haven't. I doubt they've caught any non-feral cats, but if they have accidentally done so (like if they use baited live animal traps, they can't control what animals get caught), they would just release them. If your cats often slip their collars (or even if they don't), I recommend having them microchipped. That way, they can be identified as yours by vets even if they don't have any tags. They do NOT cut their ears off - they notch or tip the ears. Often one ear is notched for girls, the other for boys. It's done do they don't re-pickup the same animals. Your pets probably don't act like a feral cat does. If they were caught, they'd likely be rereleased immeaditely. Things you can do to prevent your pet from being accidently picked up.
