People have been catching feral and non-feral cats in my area?…?

The agency is catching the cats neuterig them, cutting one of their ears off and returning them. This is good for the feral cats, but I have two that are not in need of the service. I don’t want to lock my kitties up, and I can’t stay home all day. How do I keep my neutered cats from being picked up. I would be really upset if one of my cats came home with a missing ear.
I saw one of neighbors cats that has been spayed. The vet cut the point off of the cats ear.

If your cats are wearing collars, tags, and are already fixed, there is no reason that anybody would interfere with them. They won’t cut your cats’ ears off for no reason – they only do that so they can differentiate between cats that have already been fixed and vaccinated and cats that haven’t. I doubt they’ve caught any non-feral cats, but if they have accidentally done so (like if they use baited live animal traps, they can’t control what animals get caught), they would just release them.
If your cats often slip their collars (or even if they don’t), I recommend having them microchipped. That way, they can be identified as yours by vets even if they don’t have any tags.
Put a collar on them.
They should see there collar and that their nutered. But they may not.
I wouldn’t take any chances. Keep them in your garage or something.
can’t you keep them in the garage with t heir food and water until you return? if you don’t have a garage, how about the bathroom with food and water and litter box til you return. they will be fine and there is not much they can get into in the bathroom……if there is, remove it. cats should not be roaming anyway, good luck.

You’re talking about a "trap-neuter-release" style program.
They do NOT cut their ears off – they notch or tip the ears. Often one ear is notched for girls, the other for boys. It’s done do they don’t re-pickup the same animals.
Your pets probably don’t act like a feral cat does. If they were caught, they’d likely be rereleased immeaditely.
Things you can do to prevent your pet from being accidently picked up.
Make sure his tags are on his cat safe collar.
Invest in a litter box and some cat toys and keep your pet inside.
