My cat is climbing the door, help?
So, one of my four cats has this real bad habit of climbing up our french door and sitting on top of it. It is really cute, but she is clawing up the doors and ruining them. Any suggestions?

Cats like to be up high so they can see everything. You can build her a tower of her own fairly easily. Cover it with carpet and spritz it with catnip spray. When she climbs where you don’t want her, immediately squirt her with a squirt gun or water bottle when she does it. She’ll get the hint in a hurry.
try putting lemon juice on the door. cats don’t like it.
might not be very good for the paintwork on the doors though!!
umm close the door?
Save up for an indoor cat tree & rub loose catnip or get a natural catnip spray to use on it….It’s a cure all sometimes in these climbing situations.
try spraying them with a water bottle
You might want to put a tall cat tree close to the door to fulfill her desire to be high up, which is typical cat behavior.
Secondly, trim her nails so that she has less to scratch with. You can get little cat manicure scissors; hold her paw, gently squeeze it to spread out the toes and clip the nail where the quick (the pink part) ends. If you cut too close the nail will bleed. Some cats don’t like this, and even with my own I might only get one or two at a time, but it makes a big difference.
Lastly, have a squirt gun or spray bottle (with the nozzle on ‘stream’) on hand. When she starts up the door, casually and discreetly fire a quick shot of water at her. She won’t know where the water came from but it will definitely stop her in her tracks. This works well for other inappropriate behavior too.
