Alot of people and I mean alot think the hairballs are crap .. so please make sure you are not confused. If it is indeed that give you cat some hairball treatment and it will go away. BTW hairballs are not dangerous cats will puke them up as thier hair is undigestable. If there are no hairballs goto the vet your cat might have found something poisonous.
