Do not switch litter or move box,and make sure box is clean daily. ma Make sure cats paws do not have sores on them.
my cats were doing that and jumping into walls we had to put them down take it to the vet to see
Is the box clean when this happens? Some cats are picky, especially if another cat uses it first.. or if the box has previous poop in it the cat may choose not to go in that box at all
My cat Mounty was doing the exact same thing! I took him to the vet and spent $30 just to have the vet say that it was a behavior problem. Sometimes when a new event occurs in yours and your cats life such as moving, new spouse or family member, etc. this will cause him/her to poop outside his/her litter box. It’s due to change, and often his/her way of showing their upset. lol
Paisley is telling you the litterbox is not clean enough for him. Your idea of clean & Paisley’s are different.
Since your kitty is a "neat freak", you need to scoop the litterboxes twice each day & totally replace the litter & scrub out the boxes weekly.
I’d also add another litterbox. If you’ve changed the type of litter you’re using lately use the old type in the new box. If the boxes you have are all so tall that the cat has to jump to get in get a shorter one.
I’d also suggest a very large, UNCOVERED litterbox. Petsmart carries a nice high sided Rubbermaid box.
When I had this problem I put a large piece of linoleum in front of the box so the misses were at least easy to clean up.
Maybe yur cat doesn’t lyk the kitty litter.
I know this sounds wierd but my cat gets very picky and she just poops in front of it and does that until i get a different brand.
Try changing the type of litter and cee if it stops.
The first thing to do is take him to the vet to have a full blood and urine workup. Cats that have been using a litter box with no problem for years don’t typically start going outside the box for no reason. They’ll quite often do this in an effort to let us know something is wrong. The possibilities are endless, and can range from urinary tract infection to cystitis or kidney failure to them having worms. Male cats are particularly prone to urinary tract issues, so it’s best to err on the side of caution and have them checked.
If health conditions are ruled out the next thing to consider is whether or not anything has changed. Changing brands of cat litter can cause this problem, as can a change to your habits of scooping/cleaning the box. If you’ve used a harsh cleaner to clean the box this might deter them from using it. Anything with ammonia or citrus will definitely deter many cats from their box. I recommend cleaning it with an unscented soap or bleach/water mixture to avoid that problem. Sometimes they become attached to "their" litter boxes for whatever reason and replacing it with a new box can make them a little freaked out. I know it sounds crazy, but all these seemingly little things can make a huge difference to a cat.
There are other things to consider with cats and litter boxes and I’ve only noted the most common ones that cause cats to stop using the box. The article linked below has tons of great information about cats and litter boxes. It’s a long article, but one that’s well worth reading. I recommend reading it and considering some of the ideas mentioned.
