My 11wk old male kitten slings cat litter everywhere!! How do I stop him from doing this?

As soon as I scoop the clumps out he is in there literally throwing cat litter all over the place. It ends up all over the bathroom floor and even in the tub. He will lay in the litter box and roll and stroll litter everywhere. I have never had a cat before. Is this normal? What can I do to stop it. I cant stand the stuff. I am constantly cleaning the bathroom.

You can get a larger taller box, or a box that is enclosed! There are many to choose from… I also keep a little sisal rug at the entrance it catches the litter that gets in their toes sometimes when they leave GOOD LUCK
Try putting a cloth under the litterbox and the surrounding area so whenever he makes a mess you can just vacuum it up. I wouldnt try to stop him because hes just excited his litterbox is clean and he wants to play in it. Whenever I clean my kitties literbox she starts digging and digging in it until she gets tired, then she leaves.
It’s normal. Get a covered litter box and a mat for in front of the box.
If you really want to hook him up, get this Booda box. They are covered, huge, and have a ramp the kitty walks on to knock excess litter off his paws as he exits the box. This is the only type of box I use for my cats.

most litter boxes come with a top that prevents the litter from getting out of the litter box onto the floor, check it out at Petsmart or even K-Mart, Wal-Mart or some other stores, they sell litter boxes with tops, and this should solve your problem

Your cat’s behavior is totally normal and believe it or not, desirable because this kitten wants to cover it all up!
Buy a Booda Box — it has a lockable lid which prevents over spill or in your case, frenzied flinging. The other thing that I have found helpful in my home is the plastic grass type mats outside the entrance of the box. This "catches" the sand-like particles before kitty’s paws hit the floor. Weekly, just roll the mat, carry it to the trash can and gently shake to remove the excess litter.

Unfortunately, this is not unusual kitten behavior. To kittens everything is a toy, even their own litter.
Get one of those cat boxes that has a hood. That will help tremendously. He will still carry some litter out on his paws, but you can get a little doormat for his cat box that will catch most of it when he steps out. Then you just shake out the mat outside every few days.
As he gets older he’ll become less fascinated by his litter box. Just keep it clean or he’ll let you know his dissatisfaction (i.e.; pee on your bed, on a shirt, etc…).
Get a covered cat box. The kitty can fling litter all it wants, and the litter stays in the box. The box doesn’t need to be fancy, just needs a domed cover.
Definately go with the Boda Box. I have one and love it. Not only did it stop the litter from going everywhere, but it has a charcoal filter so that it does not smell. As soon as I bought the box, I was cleaning up way less litter.
Also, I bought a different litter by Arm and Hammer that is made out of corn instead of clay. It was a little more money, but it does not stick to the bottom of their feet (or mine) and track everywhere.
Oh, and as someone else mentioned, purchase the little mat with the stubs on it to help rub the excess litter off and catch it before it’s tracked everywhere.
