First a little background. I have been feeding some feral cats for close to a month now. At first, it was a mom and 3 kittens. But the kittens stopped coming around. I did see mama occasionally as well as another black cat that looks similar.

They were all really scared of me so I could never get close.

2 days ago, I saw a black cat, smaller than Mama but not one of her little kittens either. She came up and was eating my food and drinking my water. Then I looked around and low and behold, there are 2 other, bigger cats just hanging around. One that is gray and white paws that is "husky" to be kind. I saw that cat on a street over a few weeks ago when i was driving around looking for anyone my cats might belong to. He was sitting in a front yard like he lives there.

Anyway, i was concerned at first there would be a fight as they were all interested in the food, but the 2 larger cats had no interest in food. Just my female cat. (Not mama and not her kittens but one sort of in between)

The other male that that seems to be pursing her could pass for her big brother or an uncle or something. And they both look related to "mama".

2 days ago the fat cat kept moving closer & closer to the female while she was eating. She would occasionally hiss at him and he backed off a few inches but he wasn’t going away.

The other black cat pursing her would stay a little farther away but making it known he is interested.

The female finished eating and was being a little playful rolling on her back and relaxing but she still didn’t want the fat cat to get too close. The fat cat ended up chasing her with the other black cat close behind. I went around front to make sure the bigger cat wasn’t going to hurt the female and this time the female went around back and under a very shallow deck. (6-8 inches off the ground)

Well, there goes fatty behind her and the other black cat not far behind. A few minutes later I came back and the male cats had came out from under the deck and I presumed the female was still under there. One decided he had enough and walked away toward the woods in the back and the other followed, but not too close. Its as if they are both insistent on being around if she ever wants some action but at the same time don’t want to fight each other.

The next day, I saw the fat gray cat hanging around at at a different time, but no other cats. Food was being eaten while I wasn’t around.

Then early this AM, I woke up and they had ate all the food. (I only put out small amounts at a time because Im trying to get them to warm up to me by coming more often.

So I went out and was pouring some food and here comes the female right as Im doing it. I tried to pet her but she backed off a few feet. (Fatty was right behind her and the other black cat around). And this time, 1 of the kittens came too.

Those 2 gobbled up what I put out and appeared to want more so I opened the door and they backed off a little but nowhere near as afraid as mama used to be. This time, I left my back door open and they both came up and ate while I was sitting there 5-6 feet away. I minute later I went inside and came back and fatty and apparently tried to mount her while she was eating and there was a ruckus, the food scattered around. I came out and pointed to fatty and said "go" and he backed off a few feet.
The female seemed to appreciate it and again came right up and ate. As did the kitten 30 seconds behind her.

Then she gets done and kind of went to where I couldn’t see her on my patio. When I looked out she was sitting under an old chair, where he couldn’t get to here. He kept messing with her and a few minutes later had mounted her. He was right on top of her, the other male cat close by but there was no penetration going on.

I couldn’t tell if she wanted him there or not so I shued him away. She used the opportunity to run toward the woods behind my house. And of course the males followed her.

I went out a half hour later and none were to be found…except the kitten was hanging around near the fence, I thought he/she might let me come up to her but she didn’t, she ran under the deck where she used to go with her mama.

No sign of the other cats. (Specifically, mama and the 2 other kittens)

So my question is about the mounting. Was she ok with it or not ? It was hard to tell. The fat cat was making some loud noises but it almost sounded like the female might have been too.

Appreciate any insight.

PS, and there are NO capture, fix & release programs around here. It would cost me a lot of money and Im not willing to go for that.

The fertile female seems to be the most friendly toward me. Or maybe "less scared" is a better word. Mama, who I have not seen lately would never get that close to me.

I am allergic so Im not moving any of the cats in. I kind of like the idea of sort of having an outside pet but I am also concerned about the way the multiply and so forth.

Im in th
I live in the deep south so our winters are not too bad, But I dont live in the country. Our street has 14 garden homes with a small wooded area behind each side of 7.

I have a can of canned food I was going to give as a treat to the first one who lets me pet them. Hopefully that will be in the next day or two.

But, I also wonder if the female that seems to be less scared of me might be someone elses cat too. No collar or any obvious signs but she is far less afraid of me than Mama and the kittens.
