well i worked at pet stores for years and as far as we (the employees) could tell, the multi-cat litter had way more chemicals in it. things like perfume and other odor control substances. they can actually cause an allergic reaction in cats, especially in higher amounts, such as in a multi-cat formula. they can also cause respiratory infections.
i’d recommend "the world’s best cat litter" (seriously, it’s really called that), made from corn. however since you’ve probably been using a similar litter already and haven’t noticed a reaction, it’s probably fine not to switch.
if you have noticed any skin or fur problems, or if the cat’s had breathing problems (sneezing, coughing, etc.) or ear infections, you might have found your cause. maybe try a new litter.
Multi cat litter has more odor control. I love it and I only had one cat. You still need to clean it everyday.
The kind of multi-cat litter I’ve bought is a little grey in colour. It does a good job of remaining odour free for a few days. It’s hard to remove the soiled sections because it does not clump but it dries up very quickly.
The usual cat litter I buy is the clumping type so it’s really easy to get rid of the soiled bits.
At the end of the week, the clumping cat litter is still relatively clean whereas the multi-cat one is beginning to stink and my cats won’t use it anymore.
So despite it supposedly being designed for a multi-cat household, I find the usual clumping type still the best.
You could give it a shot and try it out. Nothing quite like testing a product to see if it works for you.
Yes there is a difference, and Yes you can use it with one cat.
The difference is there are more odor control granules,in the
multi-cat litter then the regular cat litter.Either one is fine.
I use TIDY CAT,have used it since my 5 cats were babies.
My cats like it,some people prefer the scooping litter. It is a little more expensive. But with that, you just scoop out the waste,it clumps together making the litter box easier to clean.
Personally,I like TIDY CAT,they have many variations,(odor-control,multi-cat,immediate odor control. So you can choose.
I know shopping used to be easy,HA!!HA!! Enjoy your four legged friends, they will give you unconditional love.
Right now I’m using a multi – cat scoopable litter, There are 4 kittens using the litter box and occassionally the mama’s do and I will be honest I have not smelled the box once (but I do have 2 litter boxes and I do scoop multiple times a day).
