Oh, that thing with the balls is great – my cats love them!
Cats sleep most of the day. I wouldn’t worry about him while you are away. However, if you can afford it, putting a cat tree by a window is a great option, because cats love to be up high, and it’s twice as good if they can look out a window! To a cat, staring out the window is just as good as watching a movie!
You can also get a window seat for him at a pet store – it would be much cheaper, and almost as good.
When he rolls over, it means he trusts you and defers to you – he is making himself vulnerable to you. Awwwww – he loves you! Don’t worry – he’s doing fine!
no just play with the little dude, thats all he wants, and you should probably get toys for him, but as I know from my cats they will only play with them when you stimulate them.
You should get cat toys that allow you to interact with your cat (e.g. cat fishing pole with toy attached, a toy that you can dangle from a string, etc…). On top of being bored, he’s probably lonely as well.
Having a cat tree/condo is a secondary option to engage your cat while you are out of the house. Allows him to do some jumping. But you might just find him sleeping at the top.
Does your place have a window that he can look out of? The outside world can provide a bit of stimulation.
I don’t know about TV. It depends on your cat. Our dog does not care for anything that’s on TV, but our cat is obsessed with watching cars race (like F1 racing) or other vehicles going at high speeds on TV. Leaving your TV on all day might run up the power bills in the long run, and not to mention waste electricity.
Nothing beats simple interaction with him. He just wants your company and attention. And you don’t need to spend a dime to spend more time with your cat.
Cat tree’s are nice for climbing and window viewing. Get him some ping pong balls, and maybe a wand toy so you can play with him before you leave and when you get home for a few minutes. Get him some furry mice toys he can carry around and hide a few crunchy treats in different areas so he can hunt for them. You’ll also know where he has been if the treats are gone!
Well yes and you should play with him when you get home. Get him more toys. You don’t even need to spend money on it. Crumple up tin foil in a ball. That’s shit loads of fun for a cat. Rip up an old shirt or boxers into strips and tie it to a string and dangle it for him. Paper balls. Throw them for him. Get some old boxes and build him a fort and toss stuff in there. Have him hide and seek with him in the boxes.
