Is clipping a birds wings the same as declawing a cat?
Just need some info on why some people clips the wings. I do not agree to declawing a cat or docking a dogs tail, so maybe this is also those inhumane things that people do to their pet.

no it is not the same at all, where as declawing nails, or docking tails are permanent, clipping a birds wings are not, they are clipped mainly to keep inside birds from flying around and possibly injuring itself.
Clipping a bird’s wings is nothing like declawing or docking. Declawing/docking removes a part of the animal’s body; clipping a bird’s wings is simply cutting the feathers, which is like getting a hair cut or trimming your nails. It’s painless, the bird hardly notices afterward, and if you ever decide you don’t like trimming the wings, the feathers grow right back.
It also keeps birds from getting startled and flying into windows, toilets, or other places they might hurt themselves, or flying away if they get outside, and becoming lost forever. It helps keep the bird safe in environments where their flight instincts would do more harm than good.
if you leave your cage door open to let your bird out, the only humane thing is to clip the wings, the bird is still able to get around, but won’t fly into any thing and hurt itself, or fly away….it’s easy to do, just clip the flight feathers, not the entire wing., but if your bird is not allowed out of the cage, just leave it alone.,
It actually isn’t inhumane. I wouldn’t like it if it was. It just keeps them from flying and hurting them. I’d go to a pet shop to get it done I get the owner to do it. He’s a proffesional.
No it’s definitely not the same, much less similar. I disagree with declawing and docking as well, I say leave them as they were meant to be. Declawing and docking are much more drastic and unnecessary, can be painful as well. The tips of their fingers and tails cannot grow back. When you clip a birds wings correctly, it doesn’t hurt them and the feathers will and can grow back. No harm done. All it does is hinder their flying ability.
peolpe clip wings so the birds cant fly away but it doesnt always work
no the feathers grow back just be careful of the "blood feathers" if you clip those it is painful, it just makes it to where the bird cant fly long distances, it cans still fly just not far at all
Yes, I agree with you Kasey, thanks for raising the subject. Take care xx
no. it is totally differnet(:
NO, it’s not the same and just because your bird is clipped it DOES NOT MEAN IT CAN NOT FLY! The bird can still fly and gain height in a gust of wind no matter how the birds wings are clipped.
Best site to read is this one. http://www.geocities.com/declawing/
Have a good read and you’ll see for yourself that WE vets really know what we talk about and do NOT harm animals like PETA puts us out to be!!
No, not at all, declawing a cat is surgery and is permanent .. the cat gets put to sleep for the surgery.
when you clip a birds wings they will regrow, and it does not hurt them at all (well maybe their pride since they cannot fly), clipping wings only hurts the bird if you clip them too short and they bleed.
my 2 cockatiels i clip their wings only in summer, for their own safety (we have ceiling fans that get used in summer) in winter i let them have their flight as they won’t hurt themselves.
