Indoor 10' Balcony Safe For a Cat?
We have a seven month old kitten, this guy:

And we have a balcony (catwalk, if you will, in our house) that is 10′ high:

We tried walling up the balcony with flattened boxes, but he jumped to the top of the railing and hung over it.
We’ve removed the boxes, but he likes to peer over the balcony, or walk out onto the ledge over the fireplace.
Is it safe for a cat to walk out 10′ above the floor? He’s just dumb enough that he keeps trying it. His balance is great (I caught him perched on top of the 2" railing when we had the balcony walled up with boxes, looking happy as a clam) but I worry about what would happen if he fell off.
Thanks!

He should be fine. 10′ up isn’t too awfully bad but if he falls, be sure to thoroughly check him out. I can’t see it happening because cats have amazing balance and are cautious in those situations but I’m sure he’ll be fine. Your house looks a lot like my brother in law’s and his cat does the same thing. She even weaves in and out of the rails playing. She has never fallen and they’ve had her for years.
BTW, ADORABLE kitty!!!
I can see how you would be concerned about this problem. I have owned 3 cats and all of them liked to hang out in places that had a view. That is a natural behavior for them. He’s going to do this whether you are present or not. Maybe the safest thing is for him to explore those places in your presence so that if he does take a misstep then you are right there to catch him. If he falls that may deter his behavior.
