Ditto what catlover said.
All cats are different and react differently to foods, but generally excessive hairballs can be traced back to food, particularly dry food.
Reassess your cat food, and if feeding primarily dry, move to at least 50% wet (much better all around and fewer expensive vet visits), and make sure your dry is a high-quality one with actual meat as the first ingredients. There are many "hairball" formulas, and these are formulated to improve coat quality and reduce shedding. The dry I feed my cats is Nutro Senior for Sensitive systems, which not only does significantly reduce shedding, helps with the system which can distressed severely with constant hacking and hairs moving through the digestive tract.
There are many supermarket brands that claim coat health, etc., but please do a little research on other brands. Yes, Nutro, Blue Buffalo, Wellness, and the like come in varying degrees of pricier, but it is money now (and a healthier cat) or money later at the vets.
Good luck..wean them over to a better food.
what are you feeding your cat. lower quality food can cause more shedding since they aren’t getting the nutrition they need. if you are feeding a high quality diet like wellness then get your cat to the vet to see if there is a medical cause
have u tryed a furminator comb they are fantastic my long haired cat has a lot less furballs and no knots, and she loves it, attached a video u can see how much more hair is removed easily

Some cats are prone to hairballs. Both ours are fed exactly the same diet and brushed every day, yet one of them sometimes has a hair ball, the other one never does.
Try using a comb instead of a brush. Combs will get more loose hair then a brush will.
