I have an 840sq ft apartment. I’m allowed 1 pet. Is a dog or cat better? What are the best apt breeds of each?

I would like to get one dog or cat but truthfully, I’ve always been more of a cat person. I’ve heard cats can’t be left alone without another cat. Can you have just one cat? What breeds are best if you are going to just have one cat in an apartment? What are the best dog breeds?

cats ussually do better in an apartment. Dogs are just so much more work, and unless you are going to dedicate much time to training and exercize, then a dog will just become a nuisance. If a dog is bored, they resort to behavoirs like chewing and barking.
Some cats dont do well with other cats.. they dont always need another cat for company. I dont think there’s any particular breed to look for. Ask around with rescues and find a cat to adopt that they think would be better off as an only-pet.

Remember, cats can use vertical space too, so what would seem cramped to a dog is comfy to a cat who can find a perch on a high shelf.
Get a shelter cat. They’re excellent pets, cheap (right now, Sacramento SPCA is giving them away free!) and come with lots of extras.
Dog breeds:
Get a senior dog of pretty much any breed. They spend most of their days snoozing. They’re content with a walk in the evenings, and typically, they’ve left their "chewing-everything-in-site" days behind.
If you want a younger dog, consider the spaniels, retrievers, and mutt dogs.
A cat can be left alone perfectly fine. A cat is quieter then a dog but you have to clean the litter box. A dog is friendlier and wants to play and be around you, while a cat wants to be left alone. A dog can bark and help keep you safe, but you have to take it out for walks.
I would say a small dog like a yorkie or a chihuahua, or any kind of cat. There are lots of small animals at the shelter that need a good home.
I’m allergic to cats… but I love em’ to death…I own dogs… and though they are better at guarding your 840sqft apartment… they are harder to train than cats… I think… as far as house training. Cats instinctively seek out earth in which to do their business… so there should be no problem for them finding a litter box… dogs on the other hand… need to be taken out and what not.
Depends what kind of person you are… cats tend to be the yin to peoples yang…. that is… if you lead a very fast, stressful life… cats are lazy and easy going most of the time.
If you’re a home-body… dogs might get you up and about.
all in all… I’d go with a cat…. cause…. I’m allergic….. and was never able to have one when I was little…. …damn it…….lol
