Some cats are just strange that way. I had a cat growing up that would do that right outside my parent’s bedroom door if he didn’t get fed his breakfast on time! Your cat is trying to communicate something to you that he doesn’t like. It could be the litter itself he doesn’t like, it could be that you locked him out of a room or didn’t pay enough attention to him. While you don’t want to make him thing he’s being rewarded for his behavior, if you haven’t caught him in the act, you cannot scold him for the behavior. What I would do is offer play time later on for him and lots of affection. See if that does the trick. It certainly doesn’t seem like it’s the cleanliness or quantity of the litterboxes. It could be the litter brand or it could just be his cry out for attention. Good luck.
if you keep the box clean take it to the vet and see if its sick.
If its not sick get rid of it
Get the cat used to litter box. Keep putting it in the box and keep it in there. Eventually, the cat will get used to the box. If it happens to poop while you’re keeping it in the box, then give it a treat and let it know that it did good. This will take awhile, but in the end, it will be using the box as if it always has. Good luck.
If this doesn’t work after awhile, let me know and I’ll give you the other option, but this one should work. If you have another question, email me at big_mac_band@yahoo.com
If you’re using scented cat litter, that cat might not like it. I always buy unscented litter to avoid this problem.

Sometimes cats poop next to the box when they are sick.
