A common cause of inappropriate urination is UTI. Cats who eat a diet of low quality dry food are very prone to it. Sometimes even cats on the very best of wet diets can have an infection. He’ll need to see a vet to be examined and treated if he has a UTI. He isn’t misbehaving, it hurts when he pees and associates that pain with being in the litter box. Getting him treated will stop it if he’s got an infection. Call the vet for the first available appointment.
If he comes out clear for a UTI and you believe his problem is behavioral, there is a product called Feliway that can help. I’ve used it myself with great results.

You should get rid of the ottoman, as he probably considers this his litterbox.
Try placing a clean litterbox in the same location that the ottoman was in. Then, over the course of a few days, slowly move the litter (a foot or so each day) until it’s where you’d like to keep it permanently.
Ok well first you have to show him who’s boss and reprimand him. If he pee’s on the carpet, give him a light spank on his bottom (not too hard) and make sure he gets the message. Give that a try for a day or two and if it doesn’t make a difference then try using a spray bottle, spray him lightly on the face with water but from a distance. When you spank him say "No! Bad kitty! Look what you did naughty boy!" or something like that and give him a time out by putting him in a room and closing the door for about 5-10 Min’s, dont let him out even if he meows and say " That’s what you get for being a naughty boy!" It may seem harsh but it works and i have suggested this to many other people on here and they have all picked me as a best answer. So anyways, when he’s good, tell him "good kitty" and pet him over and over and praise him, giving him treats works too. But do not give it a day or two and give up, this will take a week or two or maybe even longer but i guarantee tht it works. Also you can use Frebreeze or air freshener for the smell. Good luck!
try putting his food were he is going that sometimes works cats dont like to go where they eat. and it is because there are other cats. its a cat territorial thing and i went through it and it stunk bad. and the whole neutering before he starts or when ever to stop them spraying is a myth.
If hes not fixed neuter him. He is marking his territory. Getting him neutered will make him live longer and he won’t get testicular cancer.

When we got our cat we put its head in the litter box and trapedd it in the bathroom for a good 2 hours. its only gone to the bathroom once on the floor.
