How to build a cat tree…?
I just got a kitten who is one of the most curious things I’ve seen and he loves to climb. My other cat loves being up high so I am thinking about making a cat tree/tower thing. They are way to expensive at the petstores and my boyfriend and I are pretty handy so we decided to make it ourselves. If anyone has any suggestions or photos of their towers let me know, or if you have a good website for more info, supplies or ideas. Thanks!

A really neat and in-expensive idea to try is to go buy shelving boards, heavy wooden brackets and carpet remnants. It is easy to cut shelves, wrap them in the carpeting and attatch them to your walls in a stepping pattern, can run them all over the wall and up to the ceiling where they can look down on you, you just have to make sure that they are very sturdy first. Good luck!
If you google "cat tree plans," there are a ton of them. But from what I’ve heard, by the time you buy the materials, it’s almost as expensive as buying one. Still, if you happen to have some scrap lumber, jute rope and carpet remnants around, you can definitely do it yourself.
If you go to ebay and search "cat furniture" you can find some for a fraction of the cost of pet stores. You have to assemble them, but it’s pretty easy.
I know this does not answer your question fully but, check out http://www.stepsforpets.com/
They are not that expensive and they have good options and free shipping to lower 48 states. You DO have to assemble them, but that is easy - real easy.
I did price out the materials to build a similar one to the one I bought. I had to price out the sisal rope, carpet fragments from local store, 1/2" particle board, glue/nails/staples, and botls/nuts, it was about $25 cheaper to make.
That being said, I did not want to take the time to build one. The one I got is 62560. The carpet color is atrocious - but I got a good deal on it for $79 shipped. It was on sale. This made the difference in materials even less and I could not justify making one. This particular one is not entirely stable and the cats can make it jiggle real hard when the jump off. It has not fallen yet.
