How should I give catnip to a cat?
One of my friends is desperate and asked me to feed his cat a few times a week while he is out of town. Since I have a severe cat allergy, I can’t play with the cat at all. I purchased some cat nip at the recommendation of a friend. I’m just unsure of how to give it to the cat.

Our cat loves catnip (not all do!) and we just sprinkle some on the floor. He then rolls around in it and eats it! That’s all you need to do. Sometimes he will play with those catnip stuffed mice, but we haven’t tried that in a long time as the smell or the fun don’t last too long.
You might get a stick and attach some string to it, then attach some little thing at the end for him to bat earound. that would allow you to play without really touching the cat. But I’m sure just being in it’s vicinity gets you all stuffed up! We also use that thin Christmas ribbon that curls–our cat loves to play with that!
Quickly and carefully, or it’ll take your damn arm off.
You should either sprinkle some on a small area or put it in a a specially made cat-toy filled with catnip and let the cat have at it.
I usually put catnip on a plate. They lick it off, roll around in it.
… A tablespoon or two for each cat.
I lay a towel on the floor and at that point my cats get nuts! I put the cat nip down and each one reacts totally different. One gets aggressive with the others, one rolls in the towel and the other licks it and looks stoned. They don’t care for it inside a toy though.
rub it on the ground
If the catnip is loose, just sprinkle it around on the floor. Or you can tie it up in something, like make a toy out of it. All cats do not react to catnip, tho. Some like it, some don’t.
There are balls you can put it inside of and toys. If the cat already has toys you can dip them in it. You can sprinkle some on the floor or on the cat. Any way you want to is okay.
There are toys on extenders that aren’t too expensive that allow you to play with the cat without touching them.
When I give my cats some catnip, it seems to be the equivalent of my having a glass of wine…making them relaxed and a little playful…LOL
Just take about a teaspoon of the dry catnip…and sprinkle it on the cat’s bed, near the kitty toys…or on his scratching pad, if he has one.
My cats will eat a little, roll in it, get all silly, play with their toys…sometimes ‘box’ with each other…run around the house…and then, take a ‘long catnap’.
They just seem to enjoy the treat…and never eat too much. Unlike we humans, they seem to ‘know their limit’…LOL…
Just give a little to the kitty and enjoy the show <:O)
This is what we’ve always done: We take a pinch of catnip (let’s say between a teaspoon and a tablespoon) and tie it inside a paper towel by knotting the corners like a hobo handkerchief. We make 1 per cat (although they still manage to fight over it) and give it to them. They attack and roll it in, untie it and eventually eat it. Great fun for them. Most likely they won’t leave any for you to clean up, but if you think they will do that, give it to them on a hard floor, not a carpeted area.
You really have to check on cats every day, not a few times a week. They need fresh water daily at the very least.
