How often do you empty your cat litter box?
How often should you empty your cat litter box? lol. But I don’t know if my family is doing it often enough. (Not actually scooping it, actually emptying it and putting in more litter)
Thanks! ![]()
Oh. I do scoop it a few times a day, just so you know.

Hi there,
A litter box should be scooped several times a day to clean out solid waste and of course, clumps of wet litter. If I walk by one of the boxes ( I have two cats and three boxes) and see some wet clump or solid waste I scoop it immediately. Just as humans want a clean toilet, cats want clean boxes.
I empty the box totally every two week, wash it with hot water and a mild detergent, dry it thoroughly and add fresh litter to the desired level. My cats prefer between 4-5 inches deep.
Hope this helps, and why don’t you scoop it when you notice something in the box as well. Kitty will love you for that.

I empty mine out completely every 2 weeks.
Well i throw up when i smell cat poo, but m dad cleans it (actually washes it with water then puts new litter) once every 5 days or so, It usually depends on how little litter he has left. if it’s 1/4 full, then we know we should probably change it
Once a month, but I use really good litter so it stays clean.
I empty mine every week. And I scoop it a few times a day.
IDK. At least once every 3 or 4 weeks. We only empty it when the box is completely full and our cat won’t use it anymore. B/C if you have a male, and the litter box is full, he’ll spray. Our cat’s done it before. I guess he was trying to tell us to clean it. LoL =D
We are using the wood stove pellets, so its sifted and the "sawdust" is taken out and fresh pellets put in – I don’t have to completely dump it all out unless there is few solid pellets left. I’ve only done that twice.
About once a month, however I suggest a self cleaning litter box. It is so worth the price.
I clean my cat’s litter box out once a week.
If you have one cat and one litter box, it should be scooped at least once a day, and emptied & cleaned at least once a week. Use a mild detergent and very hot water. Never use bleach or ammonia.
Not scooping or cleaning the box enough will eventually lead to inappropriate elimination.
total clean every week and scooped every day
Once a week the box is entirely changed. A cats sense of smell is much more sensitive than a human. My cat let me know that by peeing on my clothes I left on the floor!
Once a month, That is what it is written on the Arm & hammer mulitycat litter box!
Oh my if you are using a scoop- able litter it should be scooped every day to keep it clean and from smelling. And if not using scoop able then completely change every two to three days. With scoop-able litter I empty it totally every 5 days. The urine smells build up with any cat litter and can cause a lot of cat health problems. Use common sense. Do you like using a dirty bathroom. If it looks dirty change it.
I have one cat and I empty her box every 5 days rather it needs it or not. I’m obsessive about the litter box. I don’t even let others clean it because I know what I’m doing and I like it being done just so.
I buy those odor absorber, kitchen sized trash bags, put the litter box into that, lay down the box, dust in some baking soda and about a 1/2 cup of sea salt, then put in the litter.
When it’s time to clean I pull up the sides of the trash bag and do it all again.
I never have litter dust, I don’t have litter odor and it’s so fast and easy to clean up and redo. Very quick.
I use wood pellet litter with a sifting litter box, so I never have to perform a full litter change. But I usually add new litter and dump the sawdust once a week, sometimes skipping a week.
Clay litter is for suckers.
