How do you house train a male cat?

My cat is or has been house trained to pee and #2 in his litter. throughout the 10 years i have had him, hes used while every now and then peeing on towels and beds etc. Well over the past Month, he pees every where but the cat box. how do i retrain him? thanks for your answers and suggestions.
His enviornment has changed some…my grandma lives here now and she brought 5 cats with her. the 5 cats stay in her room. but that was months ago and he was peein fine. I dont know how a vet would help but if it would, then ill do it. any other suggestions?

neutering helps ALOT. natures miracle works well to get urine smells out..using a spray bottle with water and squirting your cat when you see him potty in the wrong spot…offer multiple litter boxes and clean them daily/every other day, some cats will not use their litter box if it has alot of urine/feces in it.
Male cats tend to have problems with the urinary tract and he needs to have any infection or crystals ruled out by a veterinarian. These problems are frequently brought on by stress.
Your cat is stressed by the other cats being in the household. I am sorry you have let it go on for a month as once these things get started they can be very difficult to correct.

You shake the bottle well and put three to four drops on the cat’s fur at least three times a day, more like four if you can. Use it for about two weeks as this is a problem of fairly long standing. It is for emotional healing, completely non-toxic and will do the cat no harm.

I would try the Stress Stopper from Hovfe. I am sure she has put some Walnut (essence for adjustment to change) and Mimulus (for fears) in her remedy and I think that would be your best bet.
Dr. Hovfe also has four articles at that site about dealing with litterbox problems. Be sure to take the time to read these as it will help you with tips on the retraining.
VINEGAR!!!!!Cats hate the smell and will not go near it. Just lightly spray bottoms of furniture and other areas that you want to keep safe. Every time you catch him, lightly tap him on the nose and tell him no, and take him to the box. It will take a little while, but at least it is humaine and you won’t hurt him!!
stick him a the bathroom with the door closed at all times. make sure he has food and water. that should help.
A vet would help because they would help figure out if the reason is medical or not. They also deal with thousands of animals, so they can often offer the best advice.
Is the cat fixed? If not, you need to talk to your vet about fixing him.
Since the situation has changed, this is most likely the reason for the peeing all over the house. You need to make sure that the box is SPOTLESS at all times. Invest in a new box and start all over with him. If you see him use the box, give him a treat when he comes out of that room. Don’t allow him into rooms with temptations. If that means closing doors, then close doors. If that means picking up towels off the floor, pick them up. If that means getting a lidded laundry basket, do so.

well is he peeing or marking?? if he is marking you need to have him fixed this usually solve that problem.
did you move the litter box switch littler? get another cat that is using his old one? cats are sometimes ficle and dont like change. if you changed any of these you may need to reintroduse him to the litter box so that he knows "oh thats where it went!" and if its because of a new cat then you may have to get the new cat its own bathroom cause some cats dont like to share.
(a new cat could also be why hes marking)
Something has changed in his life. Maybe his environment. Maybe his mind. He is frustrated by the change. Correct the change and he may go back to using his litterbox. But I don’t think you can retrain him without reducing his issues. Hopefully it isn’t too late.
My cats prefer towels to litterbox, so I pick up my towels. My old cat does have accidents. She is 12 and I aspect her accidents will increase.
First of all, get him to the vet to check for a urinary infection, stones, etc. Cats will often start going out of the box because an infection makes going to the bathroom painful. If he’s going all over the place, there’s a VERY good chance he’s got an infection. Male cats can actually get a blockage of the urethra if certain conditions are not treated quickly. This is very painful, expensive to correct, and fatal if not corrected immediately. Second of all, check to make sure his litterbox area is "acceptable" in his opinion…a couple things that help are: 1 more box than the number of cats, scoopable unscented litter, scoop at least once a day, completely empty and wash every 1-2 weeks, keep litterboxes away from where he eats and sleeps and make sure they are easily accessible. But first and foremost, because his habits have dramatically changed, you need to call the vet.
Sounds like you need to first change the litter box, and if it continues then take kitty to the vet for a checkup!
since your cat will not use the litter box maybe you should try to toilet train him ? (i know sounds kinda groos)
