How do I stop feeding feral cats?
I started feeding a single feral about 2 years ago. Since then she has had several litters and their little community has grown exponentially. It has become too much of a commitment and too expensive to keep up with the feedings.
How do I gradually stop feeding them?
Also, does anyone know of a specific humane organization that could neuter/spay them so they at least stop procreating?
Thanks!

stop feeding them
There are a lot of trap/neuter/release groups out there. What I suggest is calling your local humane society for a referral.
slowly ween them from it, dont just take it away at once, or they could die from not being used to hunt.
Most shelters offer low-cost or free spay/neuter programs for ferals. Ideally you would’ve looked into this before your girl started littering all over the place, but it’s not too late to check into – you can at least trap a few of them and get them fixed.
This is why anytime somebody starts feeding feral cats, they need to get them fixed ASAP.
How to stop – its simple enough, just don’t put food out anymore. But I suspect this is going to haunt you. Instead, call your local humane society and any cat rescues in your area. They might be able to help you with the spaying and neutering also with taking some of the younger, more friendly kittens and getting them adopted.
Look a look at the Alley Cat Allies Website http://www.alleycat.org/ – they are a national organization devoted to TNR – Trap, Neuter, Release of feral cats. They also keep lists of local organizations devoted to trapping ferals, so you might be able to find one near you.
I would also check with http://www.petfinder.com to get a list of cat rescues in the state, many times, have programs set up to do TNR all over the state.
Well thats the thing with cats and/or any other animal… you feed them and they never go away… I would try taming some of the smallest kittens and trying to give them away… but as for Mama, I would not try to catch her, she very well could have a disease or she might just tear you a new one… so keep away from her. But if the food stops, then the cats should disperse. Good luck.
I’ve done that and have had the same problems. Go to your local pet store’s some time’s they have people that help save cats, even feral cats. I found a no kill group and spoke to a lady that volunteered and we trapped them and she spayed and neutered them and found a few of them a home. Good luck!
I don’t mean to be rude but you haven’t helped the situation any by allowing all the litters to be born. You either shouldn’t have started feeding the feral cat (I assume she was female otherwise the unneuterd male would have strayed off) or had her spayed with the help of an animal charity/organisation. I think it’s going to be very tough for you to walk away as you have created semi tame animals that don’t hunt for food or don’t know how to.
