how do i make my indoor cat an outdoor cat?
i just moved into a new house and the owner doesnt allow cats! my kitty has been an indoor cat for about a year now. he is fully grown and still has his claws.
the stuff about outdoor cats having a shorter life span is not always true too…i have another outdoor cat who has been outdoors her whole life and she is seventeen years old!!! i got her when i was three! so dont guilt trip me. thanks =]

hun, all you have to do is put her outside, u don’t have to worry. she/he knows where the food is and honestly, when they say that indoor cats live longer, i don’t think that is true, because cats were born to catch mice and birds and climb tree’s and just run around in the woods or so ect. and they are probably happier outside any ways. just don’t worry about your kitty. just let him/her outside, she/he may wander away for an hour or so to check out the territory but she will come back because she/he knows where the food is.
just put her outside somewhere a little far away from your house but not too far & let her rome around & when she needs food or just want you to pet her, shell find her way back. Cats are independent, they can survive on their own.
put it outside
There are safe cat gazebos and a "cat walk" type enclosure that I would highly recommend. Your cat gets to experience the outdoors safely, and you’ll always know where she is.

just put him outside. make sure he has his collar with ID tags just incase he wanders too far (i doubt he’ll get lost though..).
if he’s not completely spoiled, he should adapt just fine. he’ll have tons of fun exploring the outside world, learning to hunt, and just honing his cat skills.
my Sonny used to be an indoor cat.. but he kept escaping out the door to play. one day i just got tired of chasing him, and let him spend the night outside. he loved it, and he’s been outside ever since.
Your cat has spent its entire life indoors — it is cruel to just toss it outside and expect it to survive and be healthy and happy. If it has always been inside — then it is not knowledgeable about cars, dogs and other hazards. You knew that your new living situation did not allow cats — why did you move there? Please strongly consider finding your cat a new home indoors.
i think since your cat has been indoors this entire time you should gradually let him outdoors longer and longer each day until one night just let him stay out there. make sure he has a warm place to sleep in a sheltered area =) i am sure he will be just fine and will love it out there! we are currently in the process of making our cats outdoor cats at least for the summer. I know they wont want to be outside during winter.
but we are doing it gradually. because they have been inside for a little while but not as long as your cat.
indoor cats live longer than outside cats. Just because a few people say they have cats outside who did fine doesn’t change this fact. Outside cats who have an owner benefit from the shots and vet care, but this does’t protect them from the cars, dogs, stray cats, mean people and poisoning.
I never owned a single cat in my life (allergies) but have seen and rescued cats hit by cars, stuck in the belts of cars, poisoned by antifreeze, trapped in hot garages, set on fire, I could go on and on. I’m an animal lover but we all know this doesn’t mean everyone is an animal lover.
Try http://www.catfencein.com/index.php , or maybe a dog kennel with fencing on top?
