How do I keep our cat off of our bed?
I recently moved in with my boyfriend who has a cat. The problem is that the cat has always been able to sleep on his bed in the past. But I seem to have a somewhat mild alergy to the cat. During the day I have no problem with the cat at all… but at night with the cat on the bed my eyes swell and i cough all night long. I dont think it is necessary to keep the cat out of the room all together and close the bedroom door… but if I could just keep her off of the bed without limiting all of the freedom she has always had in the house it would be very helpful. I have never had a cat before so I really dont know much about them. I would appreciate any help anyone could give.

You really wouldn’t be able to keep it off the bed without removing the cat from the room altogether. Take it out of the room and close the door when you’re sleeping.
Use it for target practice?
Use an electric cattle prod. the cat will get the message eventually.
you wont be able to keep the cat off the bed unless you keep him out of the room. Try getting him a little pet bed of his own..
during the day, cover the bed with plastic sheeting. even if the cat tolerates this, which is unlikely, cat dander will be kept off the bed linens.
keep a spray bottle beside the bed filled with water. every time the cat gets up onto the bed, spritz it gently. it will get the message eventually
the other option is to get allergy shots regularly so you can tolerate the cat
Theres no way you are going to be able to teach a cat not to sleep on the bed is the cat has always been allowed to. He will get on the bed when your asleep. The only solution would be to shut the cat out of the bedroom at night.
Push her off the bed. She’ll get it soon enough.
get an air purifier with a hepa filter and put it on your side of the bed. have a nice little area for the cat to sleep in. get a spray bottle and every time the cat gets up there spray it. it will eventually learn.
That’s wishful thinking. You cannot tell a cat where to sleep. If you try he’ll listen while you are awake…and then sit on your face when you fall asleep. If the cat was there first, I highly recommend you get better allergy medication. When I met my husband he complained that my cat snored to loud and couldn’t sleep on the bed. I told him if he has a problem with it HE can sleep on the couch. He learned to adapt to the cat…we have been married for 23 years. Be careful about making any kind of ultimatum regarding this animal….You may end up on the couch.
Shoot it with a water bottle. Not only will the cat jump down and eventually get the hint after multiple sprayings, but it’s fun, too.
Believe it or not the easiest way is to get a child’s water pistol, fill it up… and every time the cat hops up on the bed while you are in it… give him a squirt… it works great… and it’s a cheap fix… Most cats give up after a bunch of times getting squirted…
Beat him.
you could buy a bed for her and put it on the floor or you could put catnip on the floor she/he will be too distarcted by sniffing the catnip on the floor that she won’t want to go on the bed untill you vaccum the catnip up… that is what I did to keep my cat shadow from off my bed… but some cats don’t like catnip and if that cat doesn’t like it then you should read some of the other answers on this question…
If it is used to being on the bed the only way your going to keep it off is to close the door.
my cats get the idea after being removed from the bed several times. They tend to find a place where they can sleep. Being the cat is used to the bed, odds are it’s sleeping on it during the day. It’s the cat hair and dander you are allergic to. Try putting a blanket over the bed, that you can remove that when you go to bed. Also, take your pillow off the bed during the day, and place it somewhere the cat can not get to it. Try having your boyfriend brush the cat real well, and then keep it up once a week. I have asthma and allergies, and I have 2 dogs and 4 cats – as long as I vacuum daily I do just fine. Plus good allergy medicine helps.
Get rid of the bed.
The water squirt is good. They also make a cat scat that sets off a little alarm and squirts some air. It is used for keeping cats off the counters. It would probably work during the day to train the cat and use the water squirt or just putting it down with a no at night.
