How do I keep my cat out of my Christmas tree?

Since I have put up my tree, my cat thinks that it is a huge playplace for her! I am worried that she might get hurt, telling her NONO, doesn’t work, any ideas?

PetSmart and other pet supply chains sell a product called "Boundry" you can try sprying on the tree. It works but it makes the room smell kinda musty.
I talked with someone at the pet store and they suggested orange peels. Apparently cats aren’t big on the whole citris thing, so I tried spraying a really srtong citris air fresshener on the tree and it seemed to work.
The only prooblem with that is the smell fades after awhile. We are thinking of using a plug in air freshener with a citris smell near the tree. Hoping it will work!
Good luck to you!
We used a NERF gun since you obviously cant use a water gun around all of those lights. NERF guns don’t hurt but make loud popping sounds. The darts or balls, once again, won’t hurt but will scare the crap out of them after hearing the sound. After using the NERF gun, we never had a problem finding tabby ornaments in the tree again.
aww that’s kind of cute, but i understand your concern. you could squirt her a little bit with a water gun…give her some negative reinforcement so she’ll stay out of it. My cat is too lazy to climb up the tree, she just sleeps under it. She’s the best Christmas present out of them all! I love my kitty.
We have a hook in the ceiling to which we tie the tree.
When cats have wanted to climb, we made a "skirt" out of the rubbery green lattice which you can buy in Nurseries. You can cut it with strong scissors.
So – cut a disc which sits about the second spread of branches up, slice across the radius in one place and hook this around the tree, cutting out a small disc to accommodate the trunk.
Support with green garden wire in several places around the perimeter to the trunk of the tree – similar to a chandelier. Wish I could draw it for you.
Well there’s always shaking the tree. But that’s kinda cruel. Blue spruces are good for that sort of thing. The needles are to prickly for animals to get into
Clove oil is a big deterrent for cats, they hate the smell. Maybe put a few drops on some cotton balls and place it around the perimeter of the tree. It might work, but cats really love trees. You’ll have a very hard time keeping her out of it no matter what you do.
Christmas trees have an almost hypnotic attraction to cats. If the cat isn’t patting and pawing the baubles or rustling about underneath where you can’t get at her they are silently watching plotting further mischief. I had a blue Burmese girl called Echo who, after various preparatory raids on our tree, launched her self from ground level and grabbed the tree round the top with her legs wrapped round in a cat hug. Needless to say the whole affair crashed to the ground and Echo skipped nimbly away leaving me to clear up the wreckage.
A great safe and humane method of correcting unwanted cat behaviour is to use a cheap plant sprayer as a water pistol. Direct the jet of water to the body of the cat. Cats won’t associate the water with any human activity and it acts as a sure deterrent. After a short while it is only necessary to shake the sprayer to deter.
I’m having the SAME problem, only my 7 month old furry baby is chewing on the artificial tree, and I’m afraid he’s gonna get sick. We’ve tried the water spray trick, but he LOVES water, and he thinks our squirting him is a game…….I need HELP also!!
lol my cat does the same thing, or DID the same thing. Put something citric around the tree, and then he/she will stay away from it. good luck!!!!!
1.You could put mouse traps in the tree.
2.You could spray the cat with a water bottle when they are in the tree.
3. You could put a fence around your tree
The best way to keep her away from the Christmas tree would be to kick her in the opposite direction.
But a humane and i guess economical way would be to yell, swearing sometimes helps.
Whenever my cat does something wrong i yell and she yells back but eventually i win.
If you develop a habit eventually you don’t even have to yell loud, she will get the idea.
Gl use this on children too, it wreaks thier fun and adds new words to thier vocabulary(unlike da dum kitty).
