How do I keep my cat from playing with water?
She plays with her dish and any glass I leave out. She knocks over her bowl and the carpet is always wet. I can’t leave a glass out because she’ll knock it over and has already ruined a remote and several important papers. How do I break her of this? She knows better because she doesn’t do it when I am home, only when I’m gone. Sometimes she paws at her water dish in front of me, but as soon as I get onto her she knows to stop. She also plays with the toilet water and drops her toys inside. It’s no fun fishing cat toys out of the toilet if someone leaves the seat up. HELP!!
She doesn’t tip over her bowl anymore, she just scoops it out I think because when I come home the carpet is wet but the bowl is rightside up and still has a little water in it.

Get a big clay pot that she can play in to her hearts content but can’t knock over. Put some plastic under it and newspaper on top of that to absorb any spills. You can also put it into a big rubbermaid container that she can jump in and out of and if it spills the rubbermaid will catch it so you don’t have to worry about her running out of water. Always shut the toilet door and put up a sign on the door to say "Please close the door after use" with cats around they can fall in and by the design of the toilet, they can’t get back out if their head is stuck.
There are bowls you can get which a soda bottle screws into which is full of water and it will refill as it’s emptied. and to make them sturdier, turn the bowl upside down and fill the back with concrete and let it set. You can buy a fountain, she may still play in it but there is less water for her to splash around as it only dispenses a small amount at once.
You probably won’t be able to stop her, and it will make it easier on you if she needs to be bathed. All you can do is manage the problem and take steps to ensure she always has water available.
I forgot to mention, give her other things to occupy her, good environment enrichment cats and look for cheap and easy ways to entertain her, also, try to redirect her from playing with the water and to play on something else.
I’m really not sure what to do other than persistance, making sure all water is unavalible except in her bowl. My tom cat paws his water all the time, wants fresh water all the time, refuses to drink from water that has been down for longer than a couple of hours and wont stop. I’ll read the other advice given in the hope i can solve my mans trouble too! Good Luck, hope all goes well.
I don’t think you are going to break this habit. Some cats love water. You are going to have to get a no-tip water bowl for her and not leave any other water in her reach and make sure everyone leaves the seat down.
Some cats just really do like water don’t they. The only thing I can really help you with is to tell you to exchange her water dish for one of those, I’m not sure exactly what you call them, but they are cat, or even dog, sized hamster water bottle looking things. That way she doesn’t have any water to get to.
get plastic food and water dishes for her that are heavy enough to not knock over. Keep all glasses put away. Get her a pet water fountain that runs continually. Bet she’ll love it.
Awwwww, that’s so cute! Most cats hate water. First you can make it a rule that the seat is always down. Put a little note there if you have to. And second, why don’t you put a small bowl of water inside a really large bowl, so that if she tips it over, it won’t get the floor wet. I’d find it fun to watch my cat playing with the water!
try to keep her off of tables and counters with a spray bottle of VERY cold water. she may like water to play with when it can’t play back.
as for the toliet….the only solution I have found is to get a continuously running water supply. They love fresh running water to drink from.
